Which programme do all you guys recomend for encoding the .vob files to .avi? At the mo I'm using FlasK, but I always being told that there are 'better' ones out there. If you give a recomendation, could you also tell me all the programmes I need, and not just the encoder. Any idea which programme is the easiest to add permanent subtitles for a few frames with? Ta for your time.

I deleted your duplicate post for you in this forum, I'm sure it was an accident ;)
Yes, there are better programms out there! But, which one is better is all matter of opinion - it's best to try them all for yourself and see. This is basically a choice of Gordian Knot (http://gknot.doom9.org) (which can encode in DivX 3.11alpha SBC or DivX 5) and DVD2SVCD (http://dvd2svcd.doom9.org).
Both ways have pros and cons... just search around the forum and try them out for yourself!
As for your subtitles, both DVD2SVCD and Gordian Knot can add perm. subtitles (or selectable ones if your so choose).

What I'd like to do is add permanent subtitles to just a fewscenes, not the whole movie. Can you think of a easy way to do it? If so, I'd need a full list of programmes which i need, 'coz i am a neebie after all!
