I've bought things from this company for years and they always seem to deliver the best stuff for the cheapest price. They don't screw you on shipping and they ALWAYS answer the phone. I was on their site today and noticed they have Verbatim 2X DVDR media for $4.70 each. As little as $4.05 if purchased in a 25 pack. They also have double-sided Verbatim's.

Also, just in case anyone is wondering, I am not affiliated with this company in any way. I've just bought a number of things from them over the years (including my DVR-104) and I've never had a problem. Since I know a lot of people are concerned with using name-brand media, I thought I would share what I saw today. It's the cheapest I've seen name-brand media yet. As of today, at least. ;)

Awesome! Thanks for the info, SLK001! Is it a sale that's on now or was it regular price? If on sale, I need to get out there soon and pick a pack up.

How is Verbatim brand? Is it similar to Pioneer?

I've not used Pioneer so I can't really say. I can tell you that I've not had a failed burn on a Verbatim yet. Also, the Verbatim DVD-R discs DO play on my Compaq Armada's laptop DVD player! This player does not read any DVD-RW media I've tried and it will not play any of the generic DVD-R media I've used. It plays the Verbatim DVD-R's great! They burn fine at 2X on my DVR-104 also.

The $34.99 price is for a web based purchase ONLY (I haven't used them in the past). You may be able to call the store and see if they will also honor this price on a walk-in basis.
Start a www.compusa.com, search for DVD-R in computers and you will eventually find the item.

The $34.99 price is after an "instant" $15 rebate. This rebate ends today (6/10/2002). Here is the URL for this item. Get them while they're hot! (They burn at 2X with no failures.)

I have used the Princo DVD-RW (www.pricewatch.com) $1.21/each.
Worked fine in Apex DVD and XBOX.
Movies fine have not tested games yet.

When I mentioned "Brand Name", I was referring to those such as Pioneer, Apple, Verbatim, TDK, Memorex, etc. I think a lot of people would still consider Princo in the less-reliable "generic" category.
As mentioned before, the Verbatim's are the cheapest brand-name media I've found that have ZERO problems and are actually read perfectly by my laptop DVD player.

Just wanted to give me findings with the Princo's. I have heard alot of people having problems with them. I have also used Compusa, Apple, Verbatim and Memorex with no problems on Apex 1500, 3300 and XBOX.
Only one coaster and it was my fault.
So far media is treating me well.

I've had similar results with the Princo DVD-RW. They recorded flawlessly 10 for 10. I had one that at first refused to erase, but 10 minutes in the afternoon Florida sun, then a quick insertion into the DVD recorder for an erase worked like a charm. However, their DVD-R was a different story. They couldn't even record reliably at 1X - ended up sending a whole stack of them back for credit.

TRILIGHT,
I've been using mostly PrimeDisc DVD-R and Princo DVD-RW's (not bad at $1.30) and they both play perfectly in my IBM laptop DVD-ROM drive (as well as all my other DVD players). It hated the Judysdeals, Princo DVD-R, CDrecordable and others.
At that price, I could get a 50% failure rate and still be under the cost of the 'brand name' discs. But since they've both been working 100% for me, it's not an issue.
I will have to admit, if the cost of the Pioneer, Apple or Verbatim was near the generics, I'd use them - just to play it safe. But they're not (and not even close!), so I don't. And, for as many discs as I create, the 2x vs. 1x issue isn't a big deal for me.
