View Full Version : Apple DVD-R vs. Verbatim DVD-R...
First, Which media is better... Apple DVD-R or Verbatim? (most compatible, highest quality, perfect playback with 2x write)
They are both about the same price.... 5 dollars a disc.
Kinda high, but I feel uncomfortable buying those $1.50-$2.00 discs. And, also, Anything that is $3-4 dollars is usually overpriced $1-2 dollar discs. Anything above $5 is unreasonable to me.
Second, who makes the best overall DVD-R media there is?
Third, who makes the best $1-2 dollar DVD-R media (most compatible with no playback problems)

Apple DVDR's are relabeled Pioneer, your not going to do better than that no matter what you spend. They burn at 2x and they're a lot prettier than the Verbatims

Yupp,
over 100 APPLE burns so far, not a single failure, QA standard is really good.

Good, I started out by purchasing a 5 pack. I really like Pioneer discs. They have been perfect.. but they are too expensive after using the one that came with my A04 burner.

Excuse me but Apple discs are not relabeled Pioneer, they are relabeled Verbatim.
If they are relabeled Verbatims, than the price would explain it.
Verbatim's usually cost 5 dollars a peice just like these Apple's did.
If they were Pioneers, than that is a hell of a deal... cause Pioneers are usually 6-8 dollars a peice.
Whatever the case, they are apparently a good set of discs. So if they are Verbatims, than now Verbatim is good.

According to what I read in Mac magazine, Apple DVD's are relabled Pioneers, Apple made some deal with Pioneer when they put DVD drives in their computers
Who knows, either way they seem to be good.
I would feel better if they were Pioneers though! It's OK.. 5 bucks is the most I want to spend anyway.

Hi,
Apple are relabeled Pioneer's at least the ones I regulary get from Ireland (Apple-Shop).
Lay them OnebyOne and compare the dye color; Verbatim / Apple / Pioneer and you'll see.

All of the ones I have received from apple.com are relabeled Pioneers. They have the same production numbering system on the spindle and they look identical. Same dye color and everything.

Hi!
Apple Pioneer can not be the same. We have a Aiwa player that plays Apple Discs but no Pioneer discs. We have tested them with a few discs so that i can say Apple medias are not the same as Pioneer Medias.
These Apples are really great stuff...

So far all of the Apple discs (from Apple USA) I have received are rebranded Pioneers. They are the same dye, the numbering stamp on the spindle and both are made in the same contry. So unless they have changed recently they are Pioneers.

It's simple. Download the utility that SLK001 mentions HERE (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26613) and you'll be able to tell if they were manufactured by the same company or not. I don't have either so I can't test it myself. I listed what my CDrecordable.com generics, Verbatim's, TDK's, and Memorex discs show up as.
