Firstly let me thank anyone who replied to my posts, the guides that i found on the forum were excellent and i have succesfully reduced a 7gb dvd file to 4.3gb file and still retained the menu. However there is still one issue that i have yet to resolve.
At each stage of the ripping process i have checked my progress through ifo edit's built in video player and the film has played, i then came to burning the dvd using nero 5.8.8.2 and followed the guides that were on the forum, after the dvd had burned and stated that it had been succesful i happily rushed to my set top player a jvc xv-521 to try it and all the player did was register a dvd and then lock up. i tried inserting the dvd again and this time it registered the dvd and came up with a time and then locked up again.
I then returned to my pc and tried the dvd. It booted up in the recorder drive but would not boot up in any other drive (i have more than one dvd drive in my pc)
I returned to the forum and looked at the burning software other members were using and the general consesus seemed to be that record now max was the best, i obtained a copy of this and installed it and came to burn the dvd it started up fine and began writing the lead in and then came up with a missing file error. I the returned to nero and checked the guides to see if i had made a mistake, i had not so i started to burn another dvd and nero failed again stating a missing file error.
I am completley baffled now as the ripped film on my hard drive still plays through ifo edit .91

Any help would be appreciated

OKay, first off.. Are you using a DVD-R or a DVD-RW? I went to the website listed below and it has the specs of your dvd player "jvc xv-521" and it doesn't surport dvd-rw.

Spec's of the jvc xv-521 dvd player here:

http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=jvc+xv-521&DVDselect=&Search=Search&price=100000&rate=0&comments=0

And if you did burn the movie to a DVD-R, did you make sure that you made the VOB files region free? before burning, sometimes you dont have to do so, but in some cases depending on what dvd it is you might have to. I believe the newest verson of DVD Decrypter which is ver (3.1.0.0) does it for you. I hope this helps you out.

Best of luck to ya.
