View Full Version : How to playback OGM files?

Very new to OGM.
I installed OggDS.exe from Doom9.
Download a sample OGM file.
Doesn't open in WMP 6.4 or 7.0 - unsupported format.
Tried renaming the OGM to AVI - still unsupported.
What to do?
Your help appreciated
thanx

You need the video-codec used in that OGM as well.
E.g. if it's a DivX5 video, you need the DivX5 DSF.
If it's XviD, you need the XviD codec as well etc.

From one of the AB.movies groups:
Format: Ogg Media Stream
Video: XviD (set to DivX FourCC), 640x346, 23.97 fps
Audio: Ogg Vorbis, 76.7 kBit/s ABR, 44,100 Hz, Stereo
XviD (FourCC) should be supported by DivX Pro 5.0.2 (which I'm using) anyway, shouldn't it?
Even if I enable ffdshow XviD and DivX5 filters, it still won't play.

In the OggSplitter you can set a mapping from "XviD -> DivX" if you like.
Install the native XviD codec please.
Use WMP6.4.

DivX N doesnt like XviD too much i guess, so they for sure will never make their dshow filter recognize the codec ... but as the fourCC was renamed to 'DivX' it should play fine with the DivX 5 ( and Pro ) dshow filter .
I recommend to install one of the latest XviD builds ( Nic's or Koepi's ) and set FourCC back to 'XviD' as recommended by Koepi , as Nic's XviD dshow filter really rox !!!

Where to get OggSplitter? Not on Doom9 full s/w page
Install the native XviD codec please.
See above comment - where to get?
According to http://cutka.szm.sk/xvid/xvid.html ffdshow "is based on original DirectShow filter from XviD"
Use WMP6.4.
This is my main movie player - rarely use anything else for DivX

OOpsi.
I just wanted to make sure that he doesn't use any player not supporting OGG properly.
Dunno if PowerDivX3 (or is PowerDivX 4 already public available?) do correctly support ogg. Of course, if this is the case, he should use it :)

 Don't understand what you mean. I have used DivX Pro 5.0 or 5.0.1 to successfully playback one or two XViD clips.

Can you provide the link to get these please?

Possible the sample I have is corrupt, I suppose, tho OGMs are regularly posted in that group and there have been no complaints about that partic sample - its poster is very careful.
Is there a short sample (no more than a few MB) which you know is valid, which I can download?
thanx

Have installed XviD-22052002-1.exe but the OGM still won't open in WMP6.4 ("The format is not supported").
Should I also use the AviC (FourCC changer) - if so, what are your recommendations?
thanx

FourCC must be xvid/XVID.
Seems your system is in a mess due to the filters you installed (like ffdshow etc).
Maybe you have a clean install handy and test it again there? ;)

Yeah oops, I mean XviD :) Never tried with powerDivX 3 but 4.0 fully support OGG of course as Tobias and I are now partner on the player :)

Possible I suppose, tho ffdshow's filters can be turned on and off at will via the config dialogue. While running WMP64, one can check Properties, Advanced, Filters in use to confirm that this is so. Seems very reliable. I uninstalled ffdshow and reinstalled OggDS and your XviD codec - still can't open OGMs.

Unfortunately no.
Just wonder: When OggDS installs it runs
regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\OggDS.dll
No dialogue pops up - should it? How can I tell if OGM is registered properly?
thanx

Did a search on regsvr32 and found appropriate MS TechNet article.
The behaviour of my regsvr32 did not seem at all like what it was supposed to be.
Browsed WIN Me CD - located regsvr32.exe in WIN_17.CAB
Extracted to C:\temp 40960 bytes 08Jun2000 - compared to existing one in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM 9728 bytes 23Aug2001 Hmmm...
Ran genuine WIN Me regsvr32 OggDS.dll => registered correctly message
Now I can view OGMs in WMP64! My first view was of some georgeous chick and Tom Cruise (not keen on him)...
The "bad" regsvr32.exe presumably comes from some other app???
Thanx to everyone who tried to help
