Hi
i'd like to know if you guys figured out another way (i'm sure you did :) )of encoding/calculating a multi-extra source
i mean, another way than the calculation based on kbps/size to fit on 1, 2 or whatever #s of CDs
Thanks!

I'll guess why you don't see many replies. I'm not sure if understood what exactly you mean. And what is multi-extra source ?

I do it like this:
First I use GKnot to encode the extras. I set the size to smallest acceptable (usually 512x288 or 352x288) and bitrate so the compression test comes out ~<40%. Some noise filters might be helpful.
Then depending on how large the extras became I choose 1/2CD. I mean if there is a lot of extras and they turn out 450MB then there is no use in trying to fit everything to 1CD.
Now I use GKnot to encode the movie. This I set up just like any other film but on the bitrate tab there is a field called FILES. Here I select open (or add?) and select the extras (just like selecting audio file).
For a quick and dirty method you can also add the extras after the main movie already when creating the .d2v project. Then in GKnot you select credits start where the extras begin. Then you set GKnot to use average quantizer ~6 for the credits.
This will work when you have same AR for both extras and main movie. If the main movie is 16:9 and the extras 4:3 then you can add a crop(0,72,720,432) to the credits.avs and it should still work.

I usually try to have less files from the beginning on. If there are like 10 or more "movies" in Smartripper I try to do files ripping. And later I have them all in one movie, or I group them with dvd2avi (I simply press ADD instead of OK when I chose the VOBs).
And then I do exactly like hakko504. Some Compressebility Checks till they are ~ 40%. I always go 384x288 or lower to avoid deinterlacing, because then it is exactly half the size of the height and discards every second line.
For the audio I sometimes use mono MP3 or make OGMs.
