View Full Version : CinemaCraft encoder jerkyness

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone uses the Cinemaster encoder could help me out. When I encode using it, and the final .mpv comes out, and I author it, when the picture pans, it's really jerky. Is there a setting I should use so this doesn't happen? I could give more detailed version of the problem if needed. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

what is the aspect ratio of the video?
what is the framerate of the input video?

But With Tmpgenc and pulldown 3:2 on playback enabled......Source material is Star Wars ...progressive ....99% FILM.
appears that the fields are screwed ...not reverse ordered.....I am getting a Whole Frame, Whole Frame, Field Frame,Field Frame ...repeat instead of a WWSSW ...3:2 repeat cycle. this causes incorrect fps playback..wuth apparent occasional field probs...which looks suspiciously like field reversal .....
Prob shows up during faster motion scenes ....and at SOME scene cuts.
None of these probs are evident on a PC screen... only on the TV.
I wonder if I should use force frame on the DVD2AVI project settings ......
Or if I should use a separate 3:2 pulldown with pulldown.exe.
Anyone with a few specific steps to take a ripped m2v and rencode it into a smaller m2v suitable for authoring?

Hi,
with 99% FILM and NTSC you should try to use Force Film Setting in DVD2AVI and encode Progressive.
After encode you use Pulldown.exe to insert pulldown to convert your 23.997 to 29.97 fps ready for authoring.

Hi,
To correct my post, the film is actually 23 frames NOT 29.97. When I use DVD2AVI, it's at FILM 99%, but occasionally, it will change real quick to something (I believe something with NTSC). I am not quick enough to be able to read that quick switch, but then it goes back to FILM 99%. I will try out what you suggested. I've never used pulldown.exe before. Guess I'll mess around with it. Just gotta go and re-encode again. 5 hours, urg. Thanks in advance. ^_^

Hi,
you can't mess it up with pulldown.exe if you only perform a pulldown. Just 'pulldown.exe your.m2v' NO parameter needed. I know your movie is 23.xx fps but you need to perform a pulldown to 29.xx since otherwise the authoring program won't accept the stream.
P.S. Do a copy of your .m2v and you're on the safe side...

Hi Mike,
I have successfully made a new video stream using pulldown.exe that isn't jerky anymore. Pulldown.exe is actually pretty simple to use. I made a backup of the .m2v, just in case though. Thanks again for the help.

If the above posts have already answered your problem, then great :)
If not, here are a couple of discussions from a while back which may be useless to you, or may help you - however, you have nothing to lose by reading them... ;)

I have had this same problem. The one thing I have done is made the minimum bitrate 0. Could this be causing jerkiness? I know it isn't field order as I have messed around with it and the results are the same. As far as inserting I frames and such, is this just a manual process in CCE and TMPGEnc?
