I'm doing a DVD of a wedding for my sister, I have an mpeg of the wedding and an mpeg of the reception, I have a pretty background in spruce with a play wedding button and a play reception button. Is there a way I can get a sound file to play while that background is up? In other words you put in the DVD, the main menu comes up and music plays until you make your choice of what you want to watch. thanks!

i dont think so
but you can make a title video
that plays before the menu
that isn't the same as background music but its better than dead silence before playing the video(clips)
aloha

long, long time since I used SpruceUp for proper authoring, but I have a feeling that Spruce deliberately left this possibility out of the SpruceUp desigbn brief. Unfortunately, so is the possiblity of creating a floating subpicture over a movie (essentially, you would be able to achieve the same result doing it this way). Such features are normally held in reserve for more expensive products, to entice you to pay the extra. i would agree with Menaceboy's advice, to settle for a first play instead. There is one more alternative, but it will ONLY work if you are playing back the title on a PC using the Syzygy player. You could link an additional sound file (an MP3, for instance) to a title action or button action, using the "URL" function. This would make Windows Media Player kick in and play the MP3, when the DVD was played. Unfortunately, you would have t manually shut Media Player down once you had advance past the menu, or it would conflict with the audio track of the movie itself. In other words, it's a pretty crap solution, but I'm just giving you the outside option if you really wanna do it!

Does DVDit! do it? or Maestro? and when you guys are talking about a title video, do you mean a short video that plays before the main menu comes up?

DVDit! will not do this, but then it won't do MOST things...

Maestro WILL do it, and very easily.

A FirstPlay is just the (optional) video clip which can be authored to be played automatically when the DVD is inserted into the player, before the main menu is displayed.

When I refer to a 'title' I mean the authored project as a whole.
I believe MenaceBoy was using the word 'title' to refer to a 'FirstPlay'.
