I have copied various DVD's by ripping down the film only or doing DVD9 to 2 x DVD5's but I have not Transcoded one to reduce it to 1 x DVD5. So that was my new challenge !!!

The Gift - about 6.5Gb for the film calculated bit rate of 67% and set to Transcode in ReMPEG2. Now shock - horror - time to do this about 25 Hours !!!!!!

I know in the guides it says 'slow' & 'long time' but is this right?
I can't find any actual times quoted anywhere.

Should this be 25 Hours ish or have I gone horribly wrong? If this is correct I can see it being the only film I transcode - It'll be 2 x DVD-R's for me in future !!!!!!!!
Dazzzzed & Confusssssed.

Hi again - what I should have said is that my system is :-
650 MHz Intel Pentium III
30 Gb western Digital Hard Drive
192 Mb Memory
Windows 98SE.

So how about the time - it still seems quite long compared with the replies I have had. I'll try another transcode & see what happens - Ho Hum:confused:

I'm sure it depends a lot on your system.
I'm using an Athlon XP 1800 w/raid harddrives on Win XP Pro and a 5.1-5.3 g movie takes me about 6 hours w/Rempeg.
I've read that CCE is faster but have not had any personal experience with it yet.

I have a Pentium 4 1.5 Ghz processor. Takes me 10 hrs. for a 2 hr. movie. Really depends a lot on your system.

Well the story so far,
After updating my original post with my System Details:rolleyes: I got home ready for another round with ReMpeg2.

'The Song Remains The Same' - Led Zeplin. So did all the mikaky
2:12:04 long 5,799,664,000 Film Size 5,126,000 extra Vobs.
Worked it out to 80% and set it going in ReMpeg2 to Transcode:)

Go in and have a look at the time it will take !! 28.5 Hours !!

I checked on system resources and it tells me that it is 71% free. So am I doing something wrong? I used to think that my set up was fairly reasonable. Everything else for ripping etc is fine - just this transcoding problem. It might have to be 2 DVD's is better than 1.

Thanks for your help in the forum.

Thanks for the confirmation Bex. Now I know that it is'nt me I can relax. I think that as DVD-R media is so cheap now - it is hardly worth tieing up the computer for nearly 30 hours !! I think I'll go down the 2 disc route for longer films and just transcode for fun !!!:stupid:
