hi,
i've been trying to rip a Moomin DVD titled "Joulua Odotellessa"
i should be PAL, Region 1-6, DVD format 5.
i get no errors with SmartRipper 2.40,
but when i open the VOB in DVD2AVI 1.76,
already the first frame is totally corrupted.
i mean, it has an idea about, what it should be
but most of the picture is missing in about 16*16 pixels.
the movie plays for awhile (corrupted again, but missing
blocks & stripes seem to be from some other frames)
and finally crashes DVD2AVI with error message

"DVD2AVI.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program.
An error log is being created."

i haven't found the log file though ;-)

next i tried vStrip 0.8f_css.
with the GUI I get an error

"vStrip could not decrypt [@LBA 1]"

and the lower part of the screen shows

0xBF (Private Stream 2) [@LBA 0]
VOB-ID: 01/CELL-ID: 01 [@LBA 0]

here's some stuff that i get with the command line

i'm using Win2000 with a Pentium III 800Mhz with Toshiba SD-M1402
i also tried with Win2000 in Athon 1700 with Sony DVD-ROM.
both of the drives have been patched to region free.
i also tried w/ and w/o region killer V2.3 ;-)

when played with PowerDVD, i've no problems...

any ideas, what's going on and what to do?

sorry, i forgot to mention that DVD Decrypter 3.0.0.17 gives me an error:
"GetKey Failed!
Device:[0:1] TOSHIBA DVD-DOM SD-M1402
Reason: Failed to Decrypt Title Key (01 00 00 00 00)"

and DVD Decrypter 2.4 this:
"Unable to deduce key from source file: VTS_01_1.VOB
Reason: There were no vulnerable blocks
Ignore this error and continue with next file?"

try run an auth_call like the one with DVD2SVCD. Just call it by:

Auth_call.exe <DVDdrive>

eks:

Auth_call.exe F:\

auth_call is in the DVD2SVCD packed.

ok,
i did that and got

e:\Aspi loaded
Drive authentication for DOS
ASPI for NT/2000/Whistler
Found GetHTL
Drive is not authenticated

-> Drive successfully authenticated <-

what should i do next?
what does that actually mean?

but the problem is actually already solved.
i must be the most stupid person in this context ;-)

the DVD wasn't encrypted at all and i just copied the stuff to HD. i'm still wondering, why the rippers failed, bacause i've used them succesfully w/ other unencrypted DVDs!

now i just have to figure out the right parts/streams that i need to please my kids...

It must be a dodgy dvd. It's reporting that it is encrypted using CSS and then isnt. That is why it's failing. Once DVD Decrypter has performed the ASPI method for getting the decryption key, should it fail, it 'should' automatically try the brute force method. Im sure this would have worked :-/
