Scenarist seems to be rejecting all m2v files i drag into it.

Warning Quadrant or Sigma Design MPEG decoder is not present or the driver is not installed.
Warning Hardware decoding of video may not work.

what can i do to sort this out?

Also is there a program that will merge a ac3 track into a soundless m2v file?
if so i wont be needing to use Scenarist.
thanks in advance

the warnings you can ignore

and...

are you just using Scenarist to "merge" m2v and ac3? because you'll only get a vob out of it and that can be changed to mpg but it's kind of a roundabout way of doing a multiplex.

arent the warnings the reason why i cant get it to load my m2v files though?
i have several m2v files and scenarist rejects every single 1

Do you actually HAVE a SOFTWARE decoder installed on your system, or is Scenarist finding no software OR hardware, and giving up completely?

The error means there is no hardware decoder.

I had that error for a long time before getting a hardware decoder.

The problem with your files is probably the resolution, frame rate, bitrate, or something else like that.

When the file is rejected there should be a message in red type that tells you what the problem is.

Post that error message and maybe someone will know what's going on.

Yeah, i realise that - Maestro does the same, but it was the fact that Scenarist refused >completely< that had me wondering if it was simply throwing up an inappropriate message due NOT ONLY to the absence of hardware decoder, but rejecting the files because it had no MPEG2 software codec to interpret the files either...

Ahh well, I think you are probably right, but quite why Scenarist is (apparently?) refusing to give a red error message in the bottom of the screen for incorrect .M2V parameters is beyond me - it's Scenarist is usually more informative than Maestro when it comes to error messages.

I 1st tried the original m2v file which was 23 fps which scenarist searched through and showed a progress bar then refused saying bad frame rate,so then i used pulldown to make it 29 fps after i did this scenarist doesnt even do the progress bar thing and goes straight to the rejecting line - no red text at all just the blue line that says 1 file(s) rejected.

I wasnt aware i would need any extra hardware to use this program.
i got the drivers from the main web site and installed them but dont really know if its made any diff as the error still pops up.

I have given up on copying it totally with menus ect and have loaded the m2v and ac3 track into SprueUp which has made a ok(ish) dvd which although not quite what i was wanting, does the job.

thanks to Arky and Sequoyan for responded to my post.

ok, don't give up just yet - look in the folder where your 29fps file is stored. Look for the parsing file which scenarist tried to create, and then delete it. NOW try and re-import the 29fps file, and it should work!

I believe Scenarist is looking in your folder, and just seeing the failed 23fps parsing file, and giving up, without realising that the.m2v has now become a 29fps file!

Ahhhh Arky is correct ,i deleted everything to do with scenarist and started again.
this time it showed the progress bar and excepted the m2v.

thanks alot

To mux files use tmpgenc MPEG tools. And this is free.

Gorr - doesn't that give an mpeg output though?

or does it output to another m2v file?

i'll have a look as i used to use it alot for vcd stuff.
thx for the idea

I have the following problem-- I used pulldown to convert to the correct fps and I get the following error in scenarist:

Error : Number of fields (38) in GOP(# 2) or between sequence_header_code should be equal or smaller than 36

WTF is that all about?

***Nevermind***
Did a search--Fixed it.
