Dear all,

I would like to be able to take one of my DVD's and rip only the main movie and the english audio track and have the vobs split into 700 Mb chunks for easy backup onto CD-R. Would vStrip be the best program to acheive this or should I use something like DVDdecrypter and then IfoEdit and vobsplitter?

Cheers

Alex

SmartRipper has the options that you're looking for.

DVD Decrypter 3.1.0.0 also has this functionality (and its faster than SmartRipper ;-). There is no need to use IFOEdit for what you want to do.

Doom9's independent ripper comparison test/guide proves that its faster. Not only is it faster, it is more CPU friendly.

What sort of speeds are you getting? If your machine is up to it...ie, you get something other that 2x (lol) - dvd decrypter will be faster.

I have a 2x :)

But not for long, my 12x NEC is already in the mail :) :)

at this point i'll give anything a try. i havne't seen smartripper OR dvd decryptor get to even 6x on my 12x nec. cdrinfo2000.com says it should average ~8.5x

(yes I have dma enabled)

athlon xp 2000+
512mb mushkin ddr
2x45gb RAID striped
Soyo Dragon+ mobo
Via 4-in-1 4.38
win xp pro
nec 12x dvd as secondary master, no other device on that IDE channel

What does the 'buffer' sit at whilst reading off a dvd in dvd decrypter? 0%, 5%....100% ?

I'll do a rip when I get home, but I don't think I've ever seen it go past 0%

I forgot you're the author (this thread's getting old :)) Thanks for help.

I bet this guy has an APEX AD-700 hahah.. i've been asking this question for awhile.

The only problem is that, we need to downbits the vobs. So there's a need for CCE.

Btw, speed doesnt matter.

Question: How do I merge .ac3 file with .m2v file to get the .vobs?

I think you need to do some authoring in order to transform m2v and ac3 into vobs.

"SmartRipper has the options that you're looking for."

Could you elaborate on that? I cannot figure out any way of doing it. Also, I would like to know if Smartripper is capable of being set to rip EVERYTHING off the DVD at once, without having to go chain by chain.

And I get 1.4X, at the most, out of smartripper. That's with a 16X Artec, cel 700, and 512M Crucial ram.

I checked and the buffer never goes past 0. The speed passes 5x only at the very end of the rip. I keep trying ASAPI access in the new 3.1.1.0, but every time it says there is no asapi manager installed (even though i'm folling the link from the homepage). There is no speed difference between the newest version and the previous.

So you've downloaded and installed VOBS ASAPI...and then rebooted and still no go? check your system32 folder for the presence of that asapi.dll file. It installed fine on my pc - first time too!
The speed shouldnt have changed between versions. Reading times vary from disc to disc. My quickest one is The Matrix. On that one I get over 9x on my Toshiba 1401. All I can say is that its not the ripper at fault here. Its reading as quick as your system/drive will let it.

yes, the file is there, guess it worked this time. Here's the log:

I 09:11:26 Searching for ASAPI compatible host adapters...
I 09:11:26 Found 2 ASAPI compatible host adapters!
I 09:11:26 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...
! 09:11:26 No devices detected!
