Hello!

I've encoded American Pie 2 with Simple Resize and in other test - with Neutral Bicubic. Well Simple Resize is faster than Neutral Bicubic resize. On my AthlonXP 1700+ here are the results with DivX Pro 5.02

Neutral Bicubic:
1-pass : ~ 20-22fps
2-pass : ~ 30-32fps

Simple Resize:
1-pass : ~ 24-26fps
2-pass : ~ 38-40fps

Well, in my opinion simple resize gives smooth picture, since neutral bicubic picture is more sharp and looks with better quality.

Is there a way to make that sharp picture with simple resize filter?

I think you should find this thread usefull:

I think simple resize is something between soft-neutral in quality (and cover the compressiblity hole between soft-neutral)

I think no.

So Sharp bicubic is still the way to go if you have the time and desire for best possible quailty and a relatively high bitrate I guess...

IMHO SimpleResize is sharper than NeutralBicubicResize, since no filtering is involved.
I've compared SimpleResize vs. SharpBicubic and noticed that the image is only slightly softer.

i think that simple resize is great and sharp enough.Somewhere between
neutral and sharpbicubic. The quality of the movie u geti s worth the extra fps.
