Sorry if this has been covered before, I've searched around the forum but haven't found anything that clears the fog around my question (half the problem with a newbie searching before asking a question is knowing what to search for :))
I need to be able to recode a DVD movie (main film only) into a single file for using in Spruceup to add a menu. What do I need to be able to do this? The final product will be burned onto a 4.7Gb DVD-R.
Thanks.
You need either Cinemacraft or TMPGEnc. There are other peop's on this forum with more experience of re-coding DVD RIPs, but I would personally opt to use DVD-2-AVI to create an info file (or 'virtual-AVI' file), which can then be converted using VFAPI, to be understood by TMPGEnc or Cinemacraft, and re-encoded by either of these encoders into nice MPEG of a smaller size, so as to fit onto your DVD-R disk.
Arky ;o)

go here http://www.doom9.org/mpg/cce-advanced.htm
also read through the spruce up guide if you get stuck with that.

You might also want to do a search for PULLDOWN.EXE to get some tips in case you have a problem importing your file into your authoring program.

I used mpeg tools within TMPGEnc to split the vob file into two seperate files. You'll need to rename the audio file with an extension *.MPA
Then open SpruceUp and select the video file and the audio file will automatically be included (imported)
I'll reply quicker if you post questions on http://www.ac3music.com
