I have found some movies that when stripped are over 4.7 gb even though the movie is less than 2 hours long. why?

Max dvd bitrate is 9.8 Mbps, so ...

9.8*120*60/8 = 8820 MB = 8.61 GB, well over 4.7

Also keep in mind that the manufactors LIE about the size 4.7 GB. Capital "G" in the computer business is 1024^3, but the branding on the disc really intends 1000^3 => 4 700 000 000 Bytes = 4.377 GB.

Cheers

Actually, my calculation line in the above is probably also a lie, since I do believe that Mbps in the "encoding business" (mostly) means 1000^2 (bytes per sec) and not 1024^2. But you get the point right?
