View Full Version : Non Standard "rollovers" DVD Maestro

I have a need to have a rollover (for lack of a better term) on a DVD Menu (using DVD Maestro). For example, on all of the guides I have seen, you simply make a box around the menu item, then select the color you want when that menu item is highlighted. I need to have a graphic be the rollover. Most movies use this technique, where they have a logo, or some sort of non standard box that appears when the menu item is highlighted. Is this possible with DVD Maestor, and if so, how is it done?
Thanks

if you want a rollover (like on a web site) with maestro, the only solution is to make 1 menu for each different state and play with button with autoaction option.
As soon as you go on a button, it will go to another menu (the one with the new state) and so on.
I don't know if the DVD navigation is slower if using this method but I think so.
Have fun

You can do this but it isn't a rollover but a jump to another menu effect. You have to make as many variant of your menu as the numbers of the buttons. Have you 4 buttons on the menu than you need 4 menu-pictures and author 4 different menues. Use invisible buttons in the menu-creation window. All the buttons must have "autoaction" to "your rollover-menu".

you can do that without resorting to multiple menus (using auto action), its just being very good in the subpicture creation, and using ALL of your 4 colours.
if i get a chance tommorrow, ill put something simple together for you to look at.

I figured it could be done with the subpicture somehow..
I somewhat figured out the "go to a different menu" each time method, but I think it would be extremly slow.
Lets hope you get that guide up! I would like to see how the subpicture method works :)
Thanks

Use of different menues for different state of button isn't so slow solution as we think. I'm using it sometimes with Pinnacle Impression . This authoring software hasn't got a menu-creation window as Maestro has. You have to do all the button and subpicture editing outside of Impression. It has the same option as Maestro has and pluss the use of 24-bit overlay/rollover effect. This kind of menues are much slower than the highlight buttons we are use to it but can be used. I just realised now that it isn't much than the same option I use to do with VCD creation. It's actually making a different menu for all the buttons highlight. By highlighting a button you actually jump to an other menu, showing an other picture.
With transparent settings it's possible to reflect other color on different surfaces/buttons but never can give me the option (I think) when the original state of the button is a "cat head" and by highlighting it it turns to be a "dog head". It is some kind of rollover effect we are using on interactive cd-s made with Director.
I know that use of all the 4 color palettes can give you extended options but... So if the Auenf's tutoria works than we can learn something very special. Please inform oss abouth what did you do even if you didn't managed to make it. Thanks..

it is a sample menu for highlight buttons with 24.bit rollover effect.
On this way can you use all kind of pictures. I made a simple white glow effekt around the button. It isn't possible to make the same soft glow effekt with subpictures.

ok, heres what ive mostly done, you will only be able to do 3 different pics (each colour group).
- in photoshop i converted my 'mushrooms' to 4 colour (white background + 3) and wrote down the values for the three colours, then changed them to red, blue and black.
- save the back as normal and save the subpic from above.
- import both files into maestro and drop them in the menu, and colours your going to use for each of the three to the ones written down earlier and it should look similar to the orig pic.

Subpic: http://www9.brinkster.com/sportschook/img.asp?subpic.jpg
What it should look like (ish): http://www9.brinkster.com/sportschook/img.asp?finished.jpg
(btw, the colours i used here are:
Black: R69 G59 B51
Blue: R152 G157 B184
Red: R116 G107 B113

I don't get it.
Can you make a dummy project and post it on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dvdmenues/files/

download the back and subpic, you can import jpg into maestro, drop them onto a menu, then using the colour values ive given, edit pallete and put them in over any 3 colours you want, then set them at 15 on each of the three colours, leave the white on 0.
eg: http://www9.brinkster.com/sportschook/img.asp?mcolours.jpg
i whipped that up quickly just then (1min) using the jpgs, im using darker colours for the action and nothing for when it is not selected (which is what is used on almost all dvds).

Wow..you are a Maestro master. That is pretty much exactly what I am looking for. Going to have to use that method with the next DVD I author.
Thanks!
