I have got loads of DivX avi files that I want to watch on my standalone DVD player.
My Sony player doesn't support SVCD but I want better quality than VCD.
What are my options ??? And yes I do have a DVD-RW drive.

You have to convert them to Mpeg2 and to use a authoring prog. I have tried it with Ulead DVD Workshop with transcoding but the picture and sound are async.

If your SOny player won't play SVCD, then I suspect it may be because it can't achieve a high-enough disk velocity. This being the case (and it's only speculation...), you are faced with having to write your higher-bitrate (i.e. higher than VCD's 1150kbps) to the denser DVD-R format, using a Pioneer A03/4 or similar.
