To get the profit of the 100MBs that XCD offers I encoded my movie for 2 * 800 MB CDs. AC3 Sound, Subtitles (srt).

Now... How can I burn this to XCD. I mean with OGM everything ok we have a container it becomes a DAT file, cool.

Now? I have 2 files. Sound + Subs. What then?

Can I use OggMux to Mix and avi (which already has ac3 sound) and the subs...? will it play?

You got what I mean... arghhh plz reply!

first, xcd is NOT yet available. you can put your 2 files as 'standard' mode2 files with mode2cdmaker, as in doom9 guide (just do so for each of your new encoded files). BUT untill xcd is officially available, it's not recommended using this method, since there's no error protection yet.

another thing. mode2cdmaker, and xcdmaker (when it becomes available), only enables you to store 800M files on cd. that's it. muxing or other encoding issue you have has nothing to do with xcd or mode2cd. mode2cd and xcd are JUST a storage system. ok?

cheers

sorry, i didn't read your post correctly. you're talking about 2 files: dat and subs right?
the answer to this one is easy:

1. it's not recommended to store subs in a different files (either xcd, mode2cd or NORMAL cd), since the player might find it hard to read smoothly the media file, while having to read the subs file from the same cd. so it's recommended that you embed the subs into the media files.

2. if you insist on making it 2 files, you can store your subs file as form 1 file (=secured) with the new mode2cdmaker (version 1.2 or 1.3) with a correct command line switch (read the readme file of mode2cdmaker). it is recommended, however, that before playback, the subs file will be copied to the hd, and you will point your playback filter to read the subs from the hd.

pls note, these remarks (about video+subs files on the same cd) are concerned with ANY cd, and not only xcd/mode2cd.

cheers again

@Snollygoster

I think Snollygoster is basically wanting to know if he can convert his AVI with AC3 embedded over mode2cdmaker. I haven't attempted this yet but using AVI is very risky IMO. AVI has little to know error correction so the slightest imperfection on the burnt CD might lead to it never being readable again. I would suggest that you wait for XCD which should provide some error protection.

For the moment I find it safe to use OGM because Ogg does have a little error protection. Then again, trying to get an AC3 file into Ogg properly is proving fruitless.
