Bug: GKnot 0.26 and Fast Deinterlace = VerticalReduceBy2
unfortunately, in the automatically created avisynth script, VerticalReduceBy2 is put before Crop if you check "Fast Deinterlace". This causes a crash in avithyth, the frameserver does not work.
workaround:
to use "Fast Deinterlace" you have to manually edit your avs-script and put VerticalReduceBy2 after Crop.
sorry,
wef.
EDIT: problem solved (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30934)!

I attempted to use the fast de-interlacing on GKnow and I got a distorted picture. I am attaching a small version of it so you can see. Unfortunately, I failed to check the processing with the "preview" and encoded the entire movie (U571) like that and had to re-do it. It is like there is a split screen.
Can you tell me why fast de-interlacing seemed to do this? I did not use it the second time and got a perfect movie.
Thanks.

did you put the verticalreduceby2 after the crop?
does not sound so.
if not: why are you posting? especially in this thread where you can read the solution.
the crop crops an area which doesnt exist any more after the verticalreduceby2, so the second half of the picture contains random crap from your memory which might give you the impression of a split screen.

Don't put the verticalreduceby2 AFTER the resize too, only after crop.
I accidentally did that once too and ended up with the same output as yours.
But when I turn on Fast Deinterlace and try to perform Compressibility check Virtual Dub also crashes. And when I start Comp. Check the .avs script is not saved, so I can't correct it. Of course, I can turn deinterlacing off or turn on Field Deinterlacing, but won't that afect Comp. check's results?

hen u must have a different prob because comp. test works fine with me with fast deinterlace on.
Nope, coz when I turn on Field Deinterlace, Comp. Check works fine:rolleyes:

you dont have to click now for the comp test but just leave it checked and hit save&encode which saves the .avs scipt which you then can change manually.

After you click "save", the Gknot Encoder screens come up. We dont want to mess with this screen yet though, right? After clicking save with the Use 5% radio button checked, is the next step to open the .avs file in a text editor, move the "VerticalReduceBy2" line AFTER the cropping command?
If so? what next? I'm not sure I can deduce the full course of your strategy for getting around the compressibility check w/ fast deinterlace problem.
Thanks for clarifying.

yes and after changing the avs file you can encode it at quantizer 2 and then load in gordian knot. i never did this but sounds good to me.

I'm still missing a few pieces of the puzzle, sorry
I'd edit the avs and then
- load the avs into virtual dub
- choose fast recompress under the video menu
- go into the compression settings by pressing CTRL-C
- But do I choose a video bitrate for DivX5 ? What bitrate?
- Do I choose 1 pass or 2 pass?

1 pass quality, no bitrate.

Magic: I've had the same problems as you! I have followed the following list:
- edit the avs in notepad as outlined in TheWEF's initial post
- load the avs into virtual dub
- choose fast recompress under the video menu
- go into the compression settings by pressing CTRL-C
and have used 1 pass no bitrate as Peter instructed.
What do I do with the .avi file created by VirtualDub? How do I use it in order to utilise the compressibility check function in GKnot?
Thanks in advance!
