firstly, great job on the mode 2 cd (xcd). An obvious question regards the space saved. For instance , a 30 min dat file is bigger than a similar mpeg file due to extra info required in the dat file for error correction and protection. Just wondering if adding error protection to the file would negate the space saved by removing the error protection present on normal cds.
If it does save space, how much space would it save on a standard 700mb file? Thanks.

as it seems now, for ogg/ogm file, the error protection is about 64K per file (that's what tobias said we should do).

so you will be able to store 797M ogg file safely with xcd on a 80mins cd.

note though, that 'safely' means playable, and not without errors. it's a similar scenario with svcd or ausio cd. if your cd gets errors, you'll have audio/visual artefacts, but the cd will continue to play.

we didn't investigate the protection schemes for avi/mp3/other files yet. any serious info is welcome of course.

cheers
