Hi
Recently done my first CCE/Scenarist rip. Got the VIDEO_TS files ready to do. Plays OK from PowerDVD. Missed out my usual step of burning to DVD-RW and went straight to DVD-R just burning exactly what scenarist produced. Bad move. It won't play on my Pioneer 636D stand-alone. It will play on my puter though. The symptom I see on the Pioneer is the same as I got when I didn't do a "Get VTS Sectors" jobbie in ifoedit but since scenarist has produced brand new IFO files I don't understand why it doesn't work. Anyone know why it won't play on the Pioneer?
Cheers

How did you burn the disc?
There could be 2 problems.Either you burned the disc not the proper way or your set-top is not capable of reading DVD-R media. My prediction is that you didn't burn the disc the proper way.
I predict that because that was one of my first mistakes and I read somewhere that most of the Pioneer brand Set-Tops are capable of reading DVD-R Media.
(that was my first mistake, when I burned my 1st DVD's)
What program did you burn the DVD-R with?
Are VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS on the root of the disc?(Note:All letters have to be capitalized for VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS) And AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS should be on the root of the disc.
Hope this helps bro!:)
*Also what brand media are you using? -That could possibly be a problem if it's cheap unbranded media.

Where did you have the first play PGC directed too? If you have any files in the VMG (Video Manager) and you directed the first play too a VTS Title folder it won't play in a standalone but it will on powerDVD.
The best thing to do is put a dummy PGC in the VMG and direct the first play to that and then direct the dummy PGC to your menu or main feature PGC. To create a dummy PGC just right click on the VMG folder and choose add PGC.

Thanks for the replies. With regard to first reply, media is fine. Standalone is fine. Def something to do with how I used Scenarist.
I am brand new to Scenarist and I am a bit confused. All I want is the movie to play as soon as DVD starts - no menus or fancy stuff. I obviously want the 2 selectable audio streams.
What I have done is start a new project. I end up with:-
A VMG Icon connected to nothing
A First PGC icon connected with a purple line to Title_1 icon
A VTS_1 icon with a black link to the Title_1 as well
So, here's is what I did from here:-
Right click on Title_1 and "add PGC".
New icon PGC_1 appears linked from Title_1
Dragged ".mpv" file from Explorer and dropped it on PGC_1 icon. This created two icons below. One has "program" written on it and one has "cell".
Then in "track editor" dragged my two audio tracks under the video.
Pretty sure that is what I did and it got my a DVD that won't play in my standalone.
Did I miss something? Please help. I have had these files hogging space on my drive for a week now!!
Cheers

Following on from a previous answer - how do you create a new PGC in the VMG. I right click the VMG icon but no option for PGC - this option only appears on Title icons. Please can someone clarify what should go where. As stated earlier - just want the movie to play - no menus or any fancy footwork!!
Ta for all the help so far!

If the VideoManager is emty than you have to give a Language folder first. The Add PGC is activ only if you add it to the Language folder.
This is the same for VTS. Add a new VTS. It has a Title. But if you delet the Title you can't add a PGC, only a Language or a Title.

yes, sorry I forgot to mention that you need to create a language folder in the VMG first and then right click on the language folder and then select 'add PGC'.
So all you need to do then is left click and hold on the pre command for the first play PGC and drag it to the pre command of your 'dummy' PGC in the language folder of the VMG. Then left click and hold the post command of the 'dummy' PGC and drag it over to the title folder where the main movie is.
If you want you can left click and hold on the post command of the main movie PGC and drag it to the pre command of the main movie PGC so that when the film finishes it will start again, if you don't do this then the DVD will stop after the film has finished. It's entirely up to you.
The movie should now play in your standalone dvd player

Hi Again
Sorry about this. I am trying to do as you say:-"left click and hold on the pre command for the first play PGC and drag it to the pre command of your 'dummy' PGC in the language folder of the VMG". This doesn't work. It won't create the link! Can someone tell me exactly what icons I need and what should be connected where. As I said, no menus, chapters etc - just want movie to play in my DVD player.
On a related matter. Are there any software DVD players that will emulate a standalone? Then I don't need to butn to an RW to test it works.
Cheers again for all your help.

There is something abouth linking in Scenarist. But just try to connect any PGC or Pre/Post to something. Scenarist gonna give you a hint what you can or can't do. This is the easyest way to learn it.

SquareEyes,
Sometimes you don't see a "line" link for one of the commands. The pre/post command button turns yellow. I myself have learned to use Scenarist from this site and many kind people I've met on this site. I can't mention all of the names, but Jestorious has helped me a lot on linking & creating motion Menus. You might want to see my post here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25469) :)
