View Full Version : Possible VOB corruption?

Recently, I've found a strange occurrence and was wondering if others had noticed the same thing or not. It would seem that somehow my VOB files became corrupt during a burn process. I have NO idea how though! Here's the situation...

I author in DVD Maestro and compile the project. I burn the project using Nero 5.5.8.0. RIGHT after, I burn the project again. (No files changed or moved. Nero was not even closed. I just chose to burn again) All discs I try to burn after the first do not work (in a standalone or on the computer). To test, I take the original Maestro project and compile it again (nothing changed from before). When I burn the new compilation, it seems to work fine!

I'm wondering if this is a problem with the burn process, my drive, Nero, Maestro, or WHAT?? The best I can say since there was no tampering of the files between burns is that the VOB's got corrupted somehow. I have no idea how though.

Check the media. Happened to me lots of times with cheap media. One way to eliminate media possibility is to do a DVD-RW first, then swap to a DVD-R using same machine.

I did that, actually. I even went as far as to burn to the same DVD-RW that turned out fine the first time. It wasn't until I recompiled the whole thing again that it was ok. I would chalk it up to just a "fluke" but I've had it happen more than once so I'm a bit concerned.

It's not clear if that was an issue addressed by the new release (5.5.8.2), but you might want to try it - http://www.nero.com/en/download.htm

Thanks mpucoder. I did not know they had released a new version. I downloaded it and installed it and it has changed drastically. It now says "Nero Express" and follows more of a "wizard" type layout. Is this right? I can't seem to get back to the other layout and it does not allow me to add a JACKET_P folder anymore. Has anyone worked with the new 5.5.8.2?

Hi,

why don't you start using a DVD burning proggy which is prooven to produce working DVD-R/RW ?

We keep saying DON'T use Nero, use:
- GearDVD
- Prassi PrimoDVD / Stomp RecordNow (same engine)
- or VobInstantDVD

Nero suxx on DVD.

NERO "suxx" on DVD, eh? Funny, it has never failed me.

TRILIGHT: Check to make sure that you downloaded the correct file. My 5582 is pretty much identical to my old 5580 (didn't notice any diffs).

I have never made more than one burn from a compilation title set. Any additional burn is always with DVD Copy (after the original is tested on a standalone). To test to see if the files are corrupted, compile a title set in one directory and another in another directory, then do a file compare on each file after you burn. I know that NERO will put the files in the proper order, but I don't think that it would modify anything.

Well, there's only one file to download. I guess the upgrade just screwed up. I uninstalled and reinstalled from scratch and it's just fine now. Have no idea what went wrong. I'm going to try working with the new 5.5.8.2 and see if anything is different.
