No, you can't copy a DVD just by ripping:( . You need to run it through IFOEDIT and reset VOB pointers, Vob Files & Menus etc:p . I am afraid that there is no option, but to sit down for a couple of weeks with the Guides from DERROW - download all software from within the DOOM9 network and try things out.
Get yourself a DVD-RW disc to test stuff on. Make sure that you have the latest Microsoft DIVX (to use the DVD player within Ifoedit), plenty of coffee and a steady nerve. Half the battle is to make it play O.K. in the Ifoedit player from Menu to film etc.
They may seem complicated to start with - but once you get into it you'll find that the guides are the easiest and most comprehensive way to learn - Honestly. Take it from a newbee whose learning.
Every day in every way - I'm getting better and better.:D

:o Sorry, just to clarify. I mean that once you start stripping & generally messing about with the ripped files - you have to run it through IFOEDIT to correct Vob pointers in the navigation pack and the IFO Tables etc. If you want a comprehensive guide go to
www.mpucoder.kewlhair.com/derrow/ ;)
good luck & happy ripping.
Sorry to disagree but you can use dvddecripter to copy protected dvds without ripping <4.7 Gig just use iso read then write I have just done a rental copy of kiss of the dragon. If you try to file ripit it does not work as the navigation seems to fu## up

Sorry, My mistake for not being clear - I did'nt mean to copy a DVD which is less than 4.37 GB Yes that is ok. What I meant was one that was greater than 4.37 GB. and had to be stripped etc to get it down to size as Whitlam said in the original question. Once it is reduced it can't just be written and be compatable in a standalone.
Thanks for the link - I'm trying to gleen as much info as possible on this stuff !! I have not tried just copying the film Vobs via the Iso
command - just the whole disc, so I'll give it a go. I presume that you loose the menus etc even thought navigation should be possible by the forward & back skips??? Another method to try !!
Happy Ripping
you dont loose anything except the protection. Anything PCCROM is still there and the rest.
