Hello,
I spent all night (whoa it is exams period for me @ the Uni) making this test. So,

- I used Starwars - Episode I PAL DVD (awesome 5.1 to test).
- Ripped with SmartRipper (creating info file)
- Used DVD2Avi (I cutted the end credits at this stage)

- HeadAC3he with 6ch Ogg output at quality 0 (192kbps)
- GordianKnot 0.25, output size 790MB...
- Ripped the subs with SubRipper

- Encoded DivX 5.0.2 with 2 passes using GMC, B-Frames (NO Qpel) and Psychovisual Enhancements set to Medium...

-* Here we go video is ready, audio is ready, subs are ready, info file from the ripping is ready.
-* OggMux everything and I got an OGM file sized 792 MB.

-** Followed the XCD Doom9 Tutorial and burnt the CD...

Now, the CD plays fine, video quality is Pretty Good (you can tell the difference with DVD or DivX 2CD rips, but it is Awesome if you watch the movie from 1m distance (you do I think)...

PROBLEMS:

- Some artifacts (not a lot, not big) This is Psy Effects i Think.
- Ogg 5.1 does not decode Central and Sub... (yet I suppose).

Thank you! I hope this gave some light out there!

I was just making a test and finally I presented the small problems out there...

Well I think these are DivX/OGM problems but anyways just to be sure, extract the file with my dat2file command line tool and play it from the HD. There should be no changes if the problem was not due to our filter (I think so).

Hey, I just noticed...

Enabling Smooth Playback @ DivX 5.0.2 properties makes Ogg Media playback impossible...

Hey, I just noticed...
Enabling Smooth Playback @ DivX 5.0.2 properties makes Ogg Media playback impossible...

well i just finished encoding "Any Given Sunday"DivX 5.02 video and Ogg audio and muxed to ogm.plays back just fine with all the extra settings checked in decoder config including smooth playback.

by the way, this is a 2 1/2 hr movie and apart from the odd blocky parts(people hair ect.)the movie looks awesome.audio was average 96kbits/sec and sounds great.used GMC, B-Frames but no Qpel or Psychovisual Enhancements.

I just finish to rip a movie with divx 5.02 adding it into an OGM file with an Ogg vorbis audio.
As Snollygoster sad the video stream is impossible to play using the "smooth" option of the new features of 5.02 codec.
but if i don't use that option my movie result really heavy, flying off many times like as an ac3 stream that is muxed with a video giving a wrong audio interleaving in ms.
however is not(i think ) a problem of OGM(because if i try to play only the video stream-so not an OGM- i have the same problem)..and it is strange because if i use the same new codec to play the "old" divx5 movies versions ,the check of the smooth is uninfluent..all is ok!

i hope there is a way to solve this problem..because at the moment i can't muxig a movie in a ogm file(cause i can't use the smooth!)

all that is about my experience about 5.1 vorbis..i sow the same artifacts..subwoofer and central speaker do not works :(
is it a bug of OggMachine? or my speakers are not supported? (sb live player 5.2+desktop home teather 2200)

I assure you that Vorbis 5.1 works perfectly during playback. More likely it is a problem with your sound card drivers, software or even the Windows sound configuration. Please note that Ogg is a container and not an audio format as suggested above. Vorbis is the audio codec.

Apparently Divx 5.02 still hasn't fixed the artifact issue with Ogg containers.

i also found that playing the avi video file before muxing to ogm with ogg audio the avi plays ok with smooth playback but gitters back and forth if double buffering is enabled.

Snollygoster,

sorry for being late.

Your little test is exactly where i want to be in about 6 months, only you are using some premature software and the wrong video codec :D ... so here is what i am dreaming of :

Video Codec : XviD
Audio Codec : Ogg 5.1
Container : MCF or Ogg
Mode 2 Form 2 : XCD 800 MB on 80 mins CDs

= The future of ripping !!

Thanks for your test, gives me a good feeling we're going into the right direction !

LOL, Chris is a guy after my own heart:D

Indeed the wrong video codec was being used for my taste as well:)

shouldn't that be Vorbis 5.1 ??

completely free, extremely cool.

all we need now is vorbis to become opensource, and it's even completely opensource rip :):)

Are you sure about that? I created the OGG 5.1 both with HeadAC3He and with BeSweet. Before muxing or anything I did not have central and sub. I played in winamp 2.80 and I had central from the front right and rear right speaker!

The creator off HeadAC3he assured me that this is an OGG direct sound bug!

Again, avih has a point. It's Vorbis 5.1 and not Ogg. Ogg is a container.

Yes I'm quite positive that Vorbis 5.1 works fine for me. I was testing it long ago with a few different sound cards (non-Creative). I've never seen Dark Aveneger mention anything about a DirectSound bug nor is it in his FAQ. So I can't really speak to that but what I'm more curious about is why people are trying to use Vorbis 5.1. Clearly without full multi-channel coupling implemented we can't really use this for ripping needs.

Man please do not blame creative for everything. DS filters are buggy whether you like it or not.

Well maybe you would like to explain why I get fine 5.1 sound out of a Zoltrix Nightingale Pro 6 and TB Santa Cruz? I use the same DSF and players that you guys use so you tell me what the difference is:rolleyes:

Hey, check the HeadAC3he FAQ it says that 6 CHANNEL Vorbis will not play correctly.

Check check check. Then talk.

_Why do my 6 channel Ogg Vorbis files playback on the wrong speakers?
You need to get the latest Ogg DSFilter from Tobias. In conjunction with PowerDivx 4 alpha it works correctly if you have a 6ch soundcard. WinAmp does not support proper playback yet of 5.1 Ogg Vorbis, PP is working on a plug-in.

HeadAC3he FAQ
Revision .10 – April 17th
By MaTTeR/D A
Latest Stable Version is 0.22b

And you were saying to check what Snollygoster? Notice the date on the FAQ? I think it's spell out quite clearly so anyone can understand it. At the time we wrote the FAQ, PP(Peter/author of WA Plug-Ins) did not have a working plugin that supported Vorbis 5.1 and AFAIK he is still working on the channel mapping. Anything else I can help calrify?

I'll repeat this for the last time, Vorbis 5.1 results in proper playback with the latest DSF from Tobias. This is very old news.
