How do I perform compressibility check under GKnot? Every time I try to do it, the "Now" button is grayed out...

if you did a full install just go to "options" and press "clear registry"

or

go to "encoder", press "add job" and fill in the locations of nandub and vdub.

Another issue with the compressibility check: I can't overwrite the "5", that stands for 5%.
Sorry if that has been answered already. If so, just ignore my post ;)

just move the slider...

This may be stupid, but have you clicked on on the "USE" ??

@ TheWef

Perhaps this is an idiot question, but I just want to know.

I did compressibility test on 624x272 resolution (with 0.197 bits/pixel*frame) and I got about 60% of 0.328 (result of comp. test). I believe that percentage is pretty good. So, I can proceed encoding with this resolution.

But out of my curiosity, I've changed the resolution to 576x240 with bits/pixel*frame of 0.241, then I run another compressibility test. Just for my checking;) Here, I got 0.438 comp. test result, 55% is still fine. When I move the slider to 624x272, of course it will indicate lower percentage of 44.9% based on the latest result of comp.test.

Now, which one is correct 60% as per first comp. test or 44.9% as per second test?

Would it be better if the comp.test is based only in one resolution for particular movie and when the desired size is selected, the bits/pixel*frame percentage will base on one result only. Just my opinion.:)

IMO 60 % is correct.

CompTest is only approximate so the only valid extimate is the one done at the resolution you are intersted in. If you then move the slider to another res, you get an extrapolated comptest value which may or may not be near the actual comptest estimate for that res. From my experience with NanDub/DivX3.11, the extrapolated estimate can be quite close or wildly wrong. It depends mainly on the particular movie and how far you move the slider.
