it's in the news (http://www.doom9.org)!

install.txt:

TheWEF's Gordian Knot v0.25 beta.

Actually i'm working on a successor for gknot. It's not finished
yet...
More or less as a byproduct of research for this program I compiled
a new version of gknot that works with DivX5 instead DivX4.
I thought I release it to give you something to play until the new
program is finished.
Anybody who ever asks me WHEN the new prog will be finished
is NOT ALLOWED TO USE IT when the time has come. ;-)

Well, doom9 was pushing me a little, so I added BeSweet support as well!
I know i should have done this a lot earlier...
(with the help of DSPguru the new program will have full and unlimited
BeSweet support - actually it works fine already =) !!!)

setting up gknot:
do a 'Full'-install of pack 0.21, then run the 0.23 update and you are ready to rip and encode. Please go slowly through the installation process and let each part finish before you press OK for the next one. do not complain if you replace included software with other or newer versions and something doesn't work.
it's highly, highly, highly recommended to install THE FULL PACKAGE. also if you think you already have this codec or that software. it doesn't hurt to reinstall the codecs. the newest and best sw is included in the pack and it's prooven that it works TOGETHER.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: the pack is a little outdated. i recommend to replace virtualdub with the latest version. to use gknot 0.25 you HAVE TO install divx5. i tested divx5.02pro - no idea if the program works with any newer or older build of the same codec...?
then just replace all the files in your gknot folder with the ones from this archive. BeSweet v1.3b12 is included. - Big Thanx to DSPguru! (visit his homepage at http://DSPguru.doom9.org)
also included is Donald Graft's decomb.dll - Thank You very much as well!
his home is http://sauron.mordor.net/dgraft/
no need to clean the registry, you can keep all your settings.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

what's new in gordian knot 0.25 beta:

- support for BeSweet added.

this is the default commandline used,
you can fill in azid and lame options:
'-core( -input "'+ac3FileName+'" -output "'+mp3FileName+
'" -logfile "'+LogFileName+'" ) -ota( -G max ) -azid('+
AzidCmdl+') -lame('+LameCmdl+' --scale 1 ) -profile( Gordian Knot 0.25 )'

please note that "--scale 1" is added to your LameCmdl automatically!
you have to put BeSweet into your gknot folder to be able to
check the besweet option (is included in this archive).
Thanx to DSPguru for his support and his great program!

- Cmdline used for azid and lame is stored in a drop-down-list.

- codec configuration changed, gknot now works with DivX5.02

- encoder window offers pro options for divx5.

- default settings for divx5 can be set in "options" and are stored in the registry.

- logfile reader updated for version 4 ("load" and CompCheck).

- divx5 comp-check works fine now. uses your default divx5 settings.

- default avs script changed, now using decomb.dll for ivtc and deinterlacing.
Thanx to Donald Graft for providing his great filters!

- Bugfix: Stats reader crashed on SavingPrivatRyan.stats (the most uncompressable
movie there is).

- Bugfix: Subs in credits.

- and i opened an account at PayPal to be able to accept donations from
satisfied users ;-). please have a look at the "donations" tab
in the main program window. thank you very much!

long overdue; works awesome.

one issue though. just doing a reencode of austin powers. ac3-> mp3 conversion using Besweet is way too slow. close to real time. i estimate it will take 50 min to do the encoding of about 83 minutes on a 1.5GHz Pentium 4 running XP Pro.

re-encoded 2001 a space odysseylast nite. fantastic. compatibility chk worked fine.

Here is a sample code for this :

Let's say the user Nickname asked : "When will be the next release?"

If (user=="Nickname")
dont_run;
else
run;

Hope this helps :) :) :) :D :p

Great job theWef...

Just installed divx 5.02 and the new gknot version 0.25 supporting the divx5.

The problem is that when I click the NOW button under comp test, it quickly starts vdub but fails to do the test and just quits vdub.

What's wrong? Divx3 comp test works fine.....

plz tell me something.

I had the same problem. Copying the latest version of VD in the VD-subfolder of GK solved the problem for me.

Wow. Quite the weekend. First we get Divx 5.02, then we get this new toy. Now I just need more movies to rip. Overall, I'm very impressed by the new GKnot--everything I could possibly want, decomb support is a huge bonus, and besweet is of course, the bomb. Just one question...

Psychovisual enhancements? I don't see support for them. :(

Keep up the great work, WEF.

it's the fastest in the west ! (it's the only proggy that has one-pass normalization).

looks like something is wrong.
please post your logfile.
if you have spare time, download BeSweet v1.3RC from my webpage and try again.

I think you should put the deinterlacing line (fieldeinterlace()) in front of the crop line, when the width is not divisible by 4 or 2 (I don't really remember) when it has been cropped but before resize of course, artifacting will occur.

ac3-> mp3 conversion using Besweet is way too slow
I have an 866Mhz processor:

1. I did a test running ac3- though ssrc and lame and yes it is close to real time because it has to decode the ac3 convert it to 44.1Khz and then recompress it as an mp3
2. BoostCLI sucks ass as a normalizer I would love to see WAV normalize integrated into besweet instead of boost.
3. mp3 sucks ass...use ogg
4. You may find this interesting but I havn't updated winrar since version 2.71, and I tried to unrar gordianknot .25b and it didn;t work had to upgrade :)

sorry to be so "rough" but I really, REALLY hate boostcli. Sound forge RMS normalization does about the same but MUCH better without cliping.

ac3-> mp3 conversion using Besweet is way too slow

well, so far my test did not show any strange behaviour.
speed just depends on your settings.
--alt-preset is slow...
but using besweet speeds things up.

As someone else mentioned a little further up, Field Deinterlace needs to be done before cropping. Decomb doesn't handle widths that aren't a multiple of 16 (I believe it is 16 :)). You get a green line on the right or some other weird behavior from decomb then. This is the only problem I found other than BeSweet loading on the compressibility test at times. Thanks TheWEF! You made my life even easier with this release. No more doing Decomb and BeSweet manually anymore...Keep up the good work!

Veeeery nice, TheWEF!! :)

Everything working as expected. Now add ogg vorbis audio and ogm stream creation (interesting especially for XCDs) and somewhat later xvid-support and I'll never touch another application again!

Thumbs up 2u!

Remarkable. One hears nothing for months then suddenly..well,anyway.
Whiny requests: how about ogg vorbis -support, at least interleaving calculation? Mode2-output?
Cure deadly diseases and whiten my teeth while i sleep? Ha ha!! And it has to be capable of time travel! And have a telepathic user interface!!
Whoops, got a bit dilbertesque there :) Great job anyway, TheWEF.

Thanks a lot TheWEF, as usual this is a great release! Almost all my wishes became true (and I even haven't mentioned them... ;-)).
It's like christmas for me!

And now my only wishes:
It would be great to be able to do a comp check while an encoding is running and the auto crop function could be improved a little. It crops a bit too little away from the picture and leaves some black lines sometimes.

Other from that,no wishlist and the prog works awesome here!

Keep up the good work!

OGM support with DivX 5 is not recommended at this time as you can read in another thread in this forum (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23339). It only seems to work with Xvid properly at the moment.
So TheWEF shouldn't bother so far...

DivX5 works with ogm fine except one major thing:
subtitles don't work.
which is a major thing he he

Wef:

Thanks for the needed update, BeSweet and Decomb really make the process much better. I know you said no requests, but this is extremely easy:

Set of bullets or text field for entering decomb .avs lines. The 'edit' .avs feature works fine, but then it messes up the credits. What I'm asking for is an option for Telecide(guide=1) or something else to alter pattern guidance. Decomb is great, but it needs a kick here and there.

Thanks.
