Okay...here goes. I had abit kt7a running windows 2k and I used a Pioneer 10x dvd (104 model) to rip. I installed force aspi and I would consistently rip @ 7-8x. I have now upgraded to an Asus a7m266-d with 2 x 1800mps, with fresh install of w2k. The dvd drive will now not rip for crap. I have tried everything..1) bios-dma enabled and disabled 2)windows-dma if avail and also pio mode 3)force aspi- the exact same downloaded file I used with the kt7a setup. Nothing will work. It will read what I put in and I can explore any disc, dvd or cd-rom. It will also play very slow in power dvd and lock up after a few seconds.

When I run decrypter transfer rates jump from 0x to 0.7x and then I get the following messages.
aspi command error

Aspi SRB status: 0x04
Interpretation: SRB completed with errors

Host adapter status: 0x00
Interpretation: host adapter did not detect an error

target status: 0x02
Interpretation: check condition

Sense area: (shows lots of numbers)
Interpretation: tracking servo failure

I dont think you mentioned this one...(!) try upgrading your MB IDE drivers. Where on the bus is the device located? Primary / Secondary? Master / Slave? Try moving it around.
Does it actually say it is running in UDMA mode in windows?

Servo tracking errors are bad, especially if its with all discs. I wonder if you knocked it about a bit when installing the new MB. Perhaps you killed it!!!

I have installed the latest ide drivers. This drive was sharing 2nd channel with a pioneer dvr-a03. I have tried switching with no luck there either. Windows says the drive is running in U dma mode. As far as damage goes, all I did was swap out the board/processor/mem and psu, the drives were not touched. Also, the dvd-r drive will rip just fine.

Any ideas?

I know you said you swapped it, but did you ever try hooking it up by itself to see if there is a conflict with something else? Worth a shot.

I saw a post a while back where someone updated the flash bios on his/her drive...that made it work at its proper speed. Worth a try I guess?!?

Any ideas where I could find an updated bios for this dinosaur dvd? DVD-104s pioneer.

after pulling most of my hair out I finally found the problem....it was the dvd's I was trying to rip. They are actually dvd-r backups. Once I put an original dvd in the drive ripped flawlessly, back up to 7 and 8 x. I guess this drive has some issues with reading dvd-r?

Thanks for all of the suggestions.
