i can`t seem to get link2 to work instead of vfapi with the new build.
I`ve specified the link2 path in the vfapi box which i presume is right, is there anything else i need to do ?

link2 works no problems on its own.i have the trial version and also the cracked version and they both work ok without dvd2svcd.
when dvd2svcd gets to the video encoding it says it cannot find the file created by vfapi (***.avi), but it should be looking for the link2 created file surely, which is obviously not there because link2 is not being activated.
has anyone else managed to get link2 working with dvd2svcd ?

hello,
i'm sorry i cannot help with your problem. but i have tried using link2 and i have noticed that it only supports a handful of frame-rates. and most of the avi's that i try to convert are not acceptable. does anyone else know about this, or is this just in the unregistered version? and is link2 really that much faster than vfapi? i dont mind the time as long as the job gets done, but quicker would be better. right now, i use vfapi, temp smoother, sharpen and my comp goes at cce speed of .389. this is very very slow but i understand it is so due to vfapi and the filters. w/o anything(vfapi or any filters) my comp does about 1.4+. i wouldn't mind using link2 ;) so if anyone knows about the various framerates, please feel free to inform me :)

I've done lots of tests and here's what I've found:
link2 seems to have problems with the still pictures (i.e. ChangeCD picture and TitlePicture) it's something about the framerate that CCE doesn't like when using link2 as opposed to VFAPI.
there are 2 ways around this:
A. Disable the creation of title picture and Change CD pictures
B(much harder).
1. Let DVD2SVCD run through with the 2 errors (one for title picture and one for changecd picture) in CCE.
2. Let the main file encode in CCE (at the much faster speed due to link2)
3. When it gets to the pulldown part, close DVD2SVCD, then close the pulldown window.
4. Back up(i.e. copy them to a different folder) these files: Encoded_Video_CCE_NTSC.mpv, dvd2svcd project file.d2s, dvd2svcd chapters file.ini, dvd2svcd_log.txt
(might not need those last 2, but I'm not positive, better safe than sorry)
5. open DVD2SVCD again, recover your last session and choose VFAPI as your safe mode program, then start the recovery from the video encoding step.
6. once CCE starts with the main film(i.e. it's done with the title and changecd pictures) exit DVD2SVCD and exit CCE
7. put your backup files back where you got them from.
8. open DVD2SVCD again and resume from the pulldown.
here's what I think:
you probably don't even have to move the .mpv file since it's not going to be overwritten until CCE has gone through the first .vaf pass, so the only file that really needs to get backed up is the .d2s file, so you can trick DVD2SVCD into thinking it's done with video encoding.
I haven't tried method A, but I'm almost positive it will work. I've successfully done method B using a single chapter and I'm about to use this method on a full movie, so wish me luck.

i had the same problem befoure. it was the aviwrap.dll taht was not registered in the windows registry file, so what you need to do is to go to link2 folder, choose the aviwrap.ini file, select the file, activate the second botton on the mouse and after choose to " install " this will force the instalation of link2 . tested in win 2000 pro and xp here is part od the log file, as you can see the encode whent without any prob ( test encode )

hi guys
even though i`ve specified link2 in the safe mode box, for some reason dvd2svcd is still trying to create a vfapi avi which errors when cce trys to find it.
I`ve attached a screen shot of the error message i`m getting.
Has anyone got any ideas?

if i could quote your picture i wouldsorry, no answer to your question, but i've got one for you...are you running this on OS-X under virtual PC, or have you skinned up your windows installation to look like OS-X?
if you're using VPC, it might have a problem with the link2 .dll file or something, make sure it's installed by trying to run CCE by itself, not with DVD2SVCD.

From your latest readme.txt:Link2 program, which can be used instead of VFAPII thought this would be to allow CCE 2.6x to be used with greater speed, though I'm actually not sure if I'm seeing any speed increase. The whole process seems to go fine though, besides the TitlePicture and ChangeCD part of it, which wouldn't save much time anyhow.
But I don't see any conflict on the link2 website, it says CCE 2.6x and MPEG/DVD files have been tested and work fine. I guess just some clarification if anyone knows, or if dvd2svcd has some spare time.

What I meant was when using link2 and dvd2svcd trying to make VCDs it wíll fail. The bug is in dvd2svcd.
But after a closer examination it seems that dvd2svcd will not execute link2 properly if vcdxbuild isn't selected. I know it sounds weird but there you have it, and for the record in case you missed in it in the first paragraph, it's a bug in dvd2svcd.

pacohaas:
My method:
1. Start with Vfapi as frameserver
2. After still pictures are done (TitlePicture.bmp.mpv,
ChangeCDPicture.bmp.mpv) stop process, rename this 2 files
3. Load the crash recovery file, choose Link2 as frameserver
4. Start recovery (Video-encoding)
5. After the 2 Errors of CCE you can rename the ~.mpv-Files to
the original file names
That's all

yeah, same deal. My question is how much time is actually saved...anyone feel like doing a full 2 hour movie twice and posting their results?
pcs334 : I don't think you can turn vcdxbuild switch on in mpeg1 mode. Let me know if you can solve the problem.
