get 1.0.9 build 2 to correct the resolution bug for NTSC vcd.
see here for settings for compliant VCD or simply just load the vcdsettings.ini http://www.dvd2svcd.org/vcd

there is no 1 reason why audio jumps on a dvdplayer, but if you do a search on audio related problems i'm sure u'll find the answer, you can also check at vcdhelp.com. I would check his make and model of dvdplayer see if its compatible ect.

I would start just loading the "VCD-Settings.ini" under "Misc." tab "Load settings" - so you can be sure to get a comliant VCD and also make sure to follow the specs mrbass gave you with his link.
Then you should get a VCD that plays correctly.

the vcd's play ok and thanks to the settings i were given i've got a decent rip. But it's when playing svcd on the technics player that the sound jumps and stutters

jimbo, I would predict that your mates DVD player cannot handle the high bit rate of the SVCD your trying to play. This problem is not unusual. Try playing lower bit rate SVCD's to determine the upper limit where playback is fine.
