Does anyone know if its TECHNICALLY possible to create a DVD-R (gen. media not auth media) using Maestro that has Macrovision on the DVD ?
I'm talking about if it can be done, licenses etc aside...
Does the general media support this "soft" switch or only the Auth media?
I dont care about people ripping etc its just a question I've been asked.
Thanks !

I saw the bit about Maestro (I use) and Scenarist which I dont use. I've even seen the option to enable Macrovision. Just unsure of the SPEC of DVD-R general allows this to be written to disc.
thanks

I may be mistaken but I am pretty sure you can't do it on regular DVDR media. I believe I read somewhere that this media has a specific section left out during the manufacturing process and that is where the "key" is usually written to. Again, I'm not 100% sure but even looking at my blanks now, I see a ring towards the outer edge on all of them.

macrovision is just a flag in the mpeg2 stream so it sure can be done.. most likely advanced authoring programs already offer to set this flag.
@trilight: what you're refering to is CSS. That's why the discs we use are called DVD-R for general usage.. they have the CSS part of a regular DVD blanked out.. DVD-R for authoring don't have that ring and only they can be used for CSS encrypted projects.

Doom9,
Both forms of DVD-R (General Use and Authoring) have the CSS "ring" embossed out.
You can probably set the Macrovision bit, but why would you want to? Macrovision will only stop a copy to a video tape AND can cause problems on some TV sets. What are you trying to protect, anyway?

My test home movies that I lend to friends. I know they dont have DVD burners but they do have VCRs, they are too stupid to use TBCs ;-)
Thanks for the info.
