Real media 9 supports surround audio, while it is dolby pro logic, but people create their surround audio for real 9 using "surround"(read: dolby surround) mode of azid. Dolby surround is different than dolby pro logic. Following info is from http://www.dolby.com/tech/whtppr.html : Introduced in 1982, Dolby Surround products today enjoy widespread popularity ... (text removed here) ... The advanced Dolby Pro Logic Surround system appeared in consumer products in the fall of 1987.
If they are different coding systems then we need a program capable of downmix 5.1 surround to dolby pro logic, to get it work as surround.

What are you rumbling about? I'm not so sure anybody cares about Real Media 9 surround audio. I'll stick with AC3, or AAC, or maybe Vorbis for the future. Somebody prove me wrong.

your right, I apologize, but I still can't seem to figure out what the question is, if there is one.

If I understand properly you would rather have another program that downmixes the audio rather than Azid. Correct? If so, I'm not aware of anything that exists like that. Ideally, the Azid sources would be open and we could modify them, especially to add DPLII capabilities. The sources being open will most likely never happen though.
You said that Dolby Surround(DS) is different than Dolby Pro Logic(DPL). This is pretty much true as you'll notice that most VHS tapes have DS and not DPL. Almost all DVD disc now have at least DPL though. If your looking for surround sound then you should use Azid along with HeadAC3he or BeSweet to downmix your 5.1 AC3 to 2ch surround. Using Azid produces a Dolby Pro Logic surround which is going to be superior to the older Dolby Surround IMO.
As a last suggestion, if the Dolby Pro Logic surround downmix doesn't give you the effect your looking for then try the "Surround2" mode in HeadAC3he. Surround2 downmix is compared to that of the new Dolby Pro Logic II format which IMO has better seperation in the rear channels.
If I'm way off base here, please be more specifc as to what your looking for;)

Just read the Dolby link that Latexx posted (http://www.dolby.com/tech/whtppr.html) for the best explaination.
