This is my first time using Gnot, and I'm wondering about the resizing part. I've been reading Doom9's guide about encoding with Gnot and experimenting a bit. The guide says that I should use Auto resize, and then smartcrop. Is it possible to set the exact output resolution manually?
What are standard resolutions for a 16:9 DVD-rip?
I encoded my first DivX directly with Vdub, and set the resolution to 704x264 on a 16:9 DVD-rip.
I can't see that the picture is streched or compressed in any way, but that may be because the error is small. I've seen it 640x272 too and it looks ok. Comparing the two ASpect Ratios I get:
704x264 ----> 2,67
640x272 ----> 2,35
Original DVD though is 740x480 -----> AR: 1,54
Even though I can't see the difference when I watch them, the ratios are all different, and both Divx AR differ from the original.
Should I for instance choose 704x448 -----> AR=1,57, that's the closest value divided by 32.
Or a smaller: 640x416 -----> AR: 1,54 also divided by 32?
Are these resolutions ok? Or have I completely misunderstood it?
Are there some guidelines when choosing resolution?
I am thankful for any help I can get.
