I dont know if you all are aware of it (I wasnt until recently) but there are cds and dvds that can be printed on with injet printers (http://verbatim.com/products/products.cfm?pro_id=344). Unfortunately at the time the only printers capable of printing to these disks are very expensive and dedicated to that task alone.

I have emailed and called many of the bigger manufacturers of printers asking that they develop consumer level printers that support the ability to print to these CDs and DVDs.

I know they wont listen to me alone so I am asking the rest of you to do the same. Here is a list of the manufactures I either called or emailed (I also emailed Toms Hardware since they are pretty big):

Toms Hardware: editors@tomshardware.com

HP: 800-752-0900 http://www.pandi.hp.com/pandi/assist/index.html

Lexmark:1-800-358-5835

Canon: 1-800-OK-CANON http://consumer.usa.canon.com/cgi-bin/prodinfo.pl

Compaq: CustomerRelations@compaq.com

Epson: 800.463.7766

Check out the printable DVDs here (http://verbatim.com/products/products.cfm?pro_id=344)

If you can afford a DVD burner then you can afford a CD/DVD printer.

Epson makes a very affordable one.

Go here http://www.dvdr4less.com and click on "Inkjet CDRs" under the "Printable CDRs" heading.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Anyone know how good this thing is? Wish one of the major brands would do this.

The R200 is excellent--and of course can be used for more than CDs & DVDs.

The question is more than outdated, nowadays there are very good CD/DVD capable printers available for less than 100 Euro (i.e. Canon)

That is because Canon isn't allowed to sell CD/DVD printers in the US. Odd though since you can see from the old links that Epson wasn't the first to think of it, so I don't know how they ended up with the sole patent for direct CD printing.

No way I would buy an Epson printer.
