View Full Version : What are people using to watch DivX5.0.1 rips?

Tried ffdshow (latest) and while it worked, after a while I could not display the rip full screen - when I try it goes back to its native size. Also probs with the enlarged image (when it worked) having saw tooth edges.
The inbuilt 5.0.1 player/decoder still has the "dark band down the RHS" prob AFAIK
your help appreciated
thanx

Hey ppls. First of all, I'm not a big fan of the divx player provided by installing the Divx 5.01 codec. Every movie I watch a movie, it seems to be really laggy, or quality of the movie seems really awful.
I use Micro DVD player, and that never does me wrong. It's the best :D Take care y'all!
BS Player works great for me. I don't even know what that fddshow is.

fddshow is THE DECODER, it decodes all DivX and XVID, so it's the best decoder you can use, having no problem with movies coded with different codecs.
Moreover it has an autolimit function, so you can turn post-processing to max and it gets reduced automatically when cpuload is high!!
AND, most people say that it produces even a sharper picture than Divx Decoder itself.
HAVE A LOOK AT IT!

Although ffdshow has serious problems with OGG containers on my end. As in, the movie won't start playing.

I tried the player that came with 5.01 and I have to agree with smelly, it has a lag problem. I usually just stick with the trusty mplayer 6.4. I will have to try fddshow and see how it looks.

Please note as raistlin2k in this thread has tried to point out:
ffdshow is a SET OF DECODERS, NOT A PLAYER (which is really more of an interface for the codecs). If the correct codec for an AVI is not present, the player can't play the file (as we all know).
The thing I like about ffdshow is that it can be enabled or disabled easily, just by clicking its configuration shortcut. Thus you can easily enable it to play back DivX3 and DivX4 for example, then just as easily disable it so that the normal codecs for these DivX types will be used.
cheers

that the name of it is ffdshow, not fddshow. It was due to this I asked for the link since the search came up empty for fddshow (which ffdshow won't).

Damn! You're right N_F - I've made the same mistake myself and here I am misquoting it! :D
Will edit my posts to correct this error

ME TOO, sorry folks, just a small typing mismatch, it's called ffdshow
@neo_sapien
This sounds not very good, since FFDshow (now it's right:)) was the only Divx-Decoder till now working correct for ogm. original divx-decoder results in display error, when combined into an ogm.
Well, we'll see what the future will bring.
BUT, I'm quite sure, that the ffdshow will solve such problems sooner that divx decoder since it's developed OPEN-SOURCE :)

I use Zoom Player, but I include both BS player and Micro DVD on all my discs. You can't go wrong with any of these players. ;-)

I had the same problem as Neo_sapien with a 2 audio streams + divx5 ogm. It works most of the time now, but sometimes not and I don't know why.
No problem with 1 audio stream + divx5 ogm (though I had desynchronisation with Divx filter).
