View Full Version : Several Questions about Nandub !

Hi !
I hope you will be able to help me ^^

Well, let's start :

1. In the Doom9's DivX 3 guide, it is said that the first pass will encode at 6000kbps without writing anything on the disc (except the .stat at the end, of course).
Well, I made several tests, and with the Nandub rlz I use (1.0RC2), this is not what's happen ! First, it's encoding using a kind of VBR, cause when I watch Video Tab, it's variable (never 6000kbps...).
Then, in a movie, the "virtual" file exceeded 4096Mb (I'm using a FAT32 HDD), and then Nandub bugged and stopped the first pass !
So, even if it doesn't use 6000kbps, is the first pass powerful ?

2. I'm trying to encode a movie since yesterday, and, whereas I made a VCF file for it, and the first pass, the deviation is HUGE (about 50Mb) : I obtain a final file (including OGG Vorbis sound stream) about 654Mb, whereas I asked the nandub's calculator a final file of 700Mb (I typed the size of the ogg file I obtained sooner, of course)
So what's happen ? Is this so big deviation normal ?

3. About the same movie, When I use the [calc...] button, it gives me a percentage of... 0%, whereas it gaves me something between 17 and 39 for my past rips (other movies)... What's going on ? Is this normal ?
On the morning, I had installed a lot of codec, and I obtained -25% !!! So I uninstall everything, and I reinstall only DivX 3.11alpha and OggDS... And it gaves me 0% !!! Is it normal ?

A last (but not least) things : In the guide, it is said that we have to activate "BR modulation", but later, it is that tha we MUST use "Motion based curve modulation", and so we MUSt deactivate BR Modulation... So What have I to do ? what are these 2 options exactly ?

I really hope I wasn't too boring, and I hope you'll be able to help me !
Thanks by advance ! :D

answer do your first question:
If nandub is makeing very large files, this means you accually do not have the DivX 3.11alpha codec installed. During your first pass it will make a REAL uncompressed avi which could exceed almost 1mb per frame. Also make sure under the first tab of nandub that you hve DivX checked NOT mpegv4, or whatever it says. This could be your problem. Also make sure you have the most up to date version of nandub, it seems that you do...but I think someone made other versions somewhere.
Anser to your second question:
This could be for many reasons. Perhaps your max guage is too high. But I would use gordian knot for bitrate calculations not nandubs own calculator. Also try raising your DRF's max kf at least 8, and max at least 16.
Answer to third question:
I would suggest just picking a curve compression value. I usually go for around 0-10%, this tends to stress high motion scenes more. I'm not sure why its giving you crazy values though.

I think perhaps your nandub version is accually messed up somehow. Download it again fully from doom9 and see if that helps

Hi

OK, I've uninstalled Nandub, and all my DivX Codecs, then I re-installed DivX 3.11 alpha and nandub 1.0rc2 (downloaded from Doom9's website), but there is these problems yet !!!
I'm using Windows XP... could it be this ?

well, look : I'm making the first pass, and it's encoding at 200kbps, with a deviation of -3000Mb, whereas it is only at 70% !!!

I don't understand... What the fuck is going on ?!!!

Moreover, I tried to use nandub without any DivX Codec... as you said, it encodes uncompressed frames... but when it arrives at 4096Mb, it bugs, whereas it should be a virtual file (we're making the first pass) !!!!

Did you just press F8 for the first pass?
And do you get an actual file of that size or are you just paraphrasing numbers you see on the status display which you don't know what they mean?

Yep, I just used the menu to get the first pass, as the doom9's guide teold it (it says not touch anything when making the first pass).

Well, after another test, I have really bizarres results !
In the second pass, the deviation is HUGE, it encodes at 200kbps, and the curves (in the "video" tab when encoding) are crazy !
The cyan and white curves are completely... crazy :D
I really don't understand what's going on !

Yesterday, I tried to re-make my rip, so I re-make a D2V project, and I also tried IVTC usinf TMPG, but it doesn't change anything !
I have these crazy values yet ...

That's completely crazy !!!

I tried to make a rip at 737kbps, with several settings changed, like say the guide, and I obtain a deviation of -81Mb, resulting in a video file of 546Mb instead of 627Mb...

I tried to make a new rip, without changing anything EXCEPT the bitrate, and I put 828kbps (the bitrate I should use to obtain a 777Mb file with sound)...

And, will you believe it, it gaves me a 546Mb file !!!

And when I go in the file properties, it displays "80kilobytes/sec" for the two files, whereas I'm sure I changed the bitrate in Nandub !

Damn, what's the problem ????

Please, help me !!! ;;^__^
