Hey all.

I'am trying to make sense here:

First of all. I like Xvid alot. Most of all the 1 pass - quantizer.

The reason: No two pass + overall view of the movie.

What i think i need:

A way of telling a ONE Quantizer to use to encode an entire movie.
( an avrage so to speak.)

Ofcourse as 'low' (2-5) a quantizer as possible to fit a certain filesize. (I know I wont get 699999 for a 700 mb disc!!)

I think of a 5% rutine like in Quick2pass that could give a avarage quantizer. (well there goes the twopass;) But its a fast firstpass!)

Am i making sense or is it just me.. Bare with me in that case..

Cheers

Create an .avs for a compressibility-test with Gordian Knot, do two passes on it with desired filesize in 2nd pass=(c-test%)yourdesiredfilesize. Start debugview in (or at the end of) 2nd pass and watch the 'average quantizer' that it spits out at the very end. I think this could do it. Anyone else with ideas on that?

...AAAAnd you're violating forum-rules because your subject-line doesn't describe what you're asking. Don't do it again, we're very strict on such things.

you can use 1-Pass-CBR
it's not constant quant, but may suprise you with it's results. theoretically, it may even behave better than const quant.

in CBR mode, you can use average bitrate, and the file size is quite predictable.

since few weeks now, the CBR mode has been improved by foxer. i think you should give it a try.

avi.

Hey again

First thanks for a speedy answer, and sorry if I have violated the forum rules. That wasn't my entension.

'start debugview in (or at the end of) 2nd pass and watch the 'average quantizer' that it spits out at the very end.'

I can only see the Average Kb used in the movie, or am i looking the wrong place. I think its the debugview i cant find. Could u be alittle more specific.

I sound like the thing i'am looking for...

Thanks again..

Cheers

Also thanks for the answer. Well i'll give it a try.

I may add that the last time i used CBR it wasn't the greatest..
But i'am willing to try it again:)

Cheers

For debugview, go here: http://www.sysinternals.com/
And then, depending on your OS, look for the utilities section.
