Do you mean like subtitles? If you are adding lots of text, that is one way. You could create an SSA using Substation Alpha, then have Avisynth use virtualdub's subtitler filter to display it. But subtitles can be kind of hard to learn how to do IMHO.

It depends on how much text you want to add, too, I guess. You are probably just looking for an .avs command, so I'll fade away now...

I'd advise you to use SSA for that anyhow. Because of its powerful interface were you can customize the look of the text you want in your encode.
