I've been using Nundub with Divx3 untill 2-pass Divx4, Divx5 and Xvid came out.
Except for multiplexing dual audio streams (I still do that), why use Nundub instead of 2-pass Xvid or DivX5 with close-to-perfect file size prediction and very good quality?
I would realy like a professional answer to the question.

I think your eyes are best capable of making the judgement. Here's just a few visual and textual hints: http://www.doom9.org/codec2.htm
There are various reasons.
a) The edge newer codecs has is not by a whole lot just yet, Doom9 illustrated this best above. Some people need to have the upgrade from Volkswagen to Ferrari until they consider something better.
b) The codecs has an "alpha" tag stuck to them that keeps people from trying it out for themelves until the mainstream decides to put a "final" or "beta" tag on them.
c) Compatibility issues, where new codecs require new software/vode/filters installed.
d) Fear from the scene that pushes progress back, fear from the known ripper groups. Fear because they don't want to learn a new codec that could mean they have to go back to the schoolbook, reading up and *shock* be a n00b again.

hehe, laziness. I'm just too swamped to put the time into starting from scratch again. Maybe this summer. ;)

;) Its Nandub bro.
And if you can get great quality with Nandub... then why not use it.

- pretty much perfect ( not close ) filesize prediction with gknot.
- imho xvid has not yet surpassed divx 3.11 in terms of quality as a general rule and from what little i have tried of divx 5 it seems to lose to much detail for me. It'll be a happy day for me when xvid gets to the point of looking better than 3.11 :D ... completely a subjective view though.
hehe, it's nandub, not nundub ... sorry, couldn't resist :).

If you are a newbie, itīs better to start learn encoding with DivX5 or XviD.
But it you are veteran with many thousends of hours of expierence in Nandub like me, you can get better quality with Nandub(but not GKnot) than DivX5/XviD by fine adjusting the options, especially the value of "luminance correction" to reduce the blockness on the wall, witch is the main complain in the Doom9īs "codecs compare" ;)

I think that I am not trying a new codec because for me there is no need...divx3.11 suits me fine with nannie(nandub)..sometimes people frown upon the thought of having to learn nandub because of all the hard controls etc.. Doom9 has made good guides for nandub as a starting point...if u arent willing to take the time to learn divx3.11 and nandub then u know that using the other codecs may be an easy way out..even though i have not used any other ones i have listened to what people have said...its your personal rip and up to you what to use not to what other people think... u all have a right to your opinion but for me why change when i am happy with what i can do with nandub. i will go to another codec when it gives me DVD perfect quality for 1 cd rips . right now my rips look somewhat close with divx3.11..Nandub all the way!! ;)later fellas
