Anyone know what PrimeDisc DVD-R media is like?

Just purchase 50 of the PrimeDisc with DVD cases and they work just fine. I'm not happy with the DVD cases, they're a bit difficult to get a DVD back into, but the discs are working great. Will probably order more.

I'm using the Pioneer A03 w/1.80 flash.

And what about the TDK media that they're selling in bulk for cheap?

Are those "real" TDK media (like the jewel case ones) ??

Have anyone tried it? Here goes the link:

TDK 2X DVD-R Discs for General Use 4.7 GB - 4.7GB Bulk w/case box 50 Pack (http://www.shop4tech.com/cgi-bin/shop/shop.cgi?action=specs&&item=1028157342&&choice=CDR%20%20CDRW%20%20DVDR&&subchoice_1=DVD-R&&subchoice_2=DVD-R%20Branded)

Thanks for any help.

Meritline is selling TDKs at a good price too.

Check this out: TDK DVD-R Blank Media 4.7 GB 2X for General Use in Jewel Case (DVD-R47AAX) (http://www.meritline.com/tdkdvgen47gb.html)

And it is the jewel cased ones.

Has anyone tried this media? It is as good as Verbatim?

Thanks.

I just ordered some of those TDK's from meritline and I also ordered some of the double sided ones they're selling now. I don't know how accurate their pictures are on the web site, but the pic looks like it says Primedisc. I haven't tried those yet, but I'll let you know when I get it.

Well, the only way to tell what they are (TDK or not) is using Advdinfo. First thing I'd do would be check one, verify it's TDK before going anywhere near them. But I think they're (Shop4Tech) going to be checking what they send, since the PrimeDisc mishap cost them alot in reshipping/replacement.

Let us know how they work!

I have received my Primediscs from Shop4Tech...

They are in bulk. Silver on top and dark purple on bottom side. ADVDInfo says they are Ritek Generation 3... Are what they are supposed to be ?

Currently compiling one of my work... Going to burn one of them in a couple minutes..

Will edit this message when the job'll finish!
_______________________________________________________

:D :D :D My burned dvd seems to work perfectly from the beginning 'till the end! :D :D :D It seems that I only have a little problems with branching and command sequence in Maestro :sly: I have to take a look! Anyway, that's another problem, and is out of topic!

Keep us informed about the TDKs ... I want to order again from them.. They ship via UPS and in Canada it seems that Duties and taxes are bypassed.. (dunno why!)

Tatjahna,

Yes, PrimeDisc show up as Ritek generation 3 under ADVDinfo. I've just recieved another 50 from Shop4tech and they've been working perfectly (with the exception of the 1 disc that got toasted during the electrical storm! )

You know, I've heard the same about UPS and shipping to the UK. I send some stuff over there last week, and was advised by our administrator to use UPS rather than Fedex because when it goes UPS, it has less 'questions' at customs. Interesting....

Here in Brasil there's no way to bypass taxes when u ship via FedEx, UPS :( Via USPS Air Mail chances are 50/50

Shure bypass only for orders under U$50,00 and not from a Company. The sender must be an individual.

And the worst: the taxes are 60% over the invoice total. That's why I'm ( as many are ) seeking for the better/cheaper deal on media.

On local stores all we have is some printable media named "Net Perfect" that costs U$3,30 per disc in bulk.

My results with this media seems to be kinda good for video and 50/50 for PS2 games.

ADVDinfo says ".....GSC001.." Does anyone know about those?

Padre, in fact I have noticed that Shop4Tech have sent me the wrong package.

They have sent me Ritek dvd-r thermal-printable instead of retail Primediscs.

I don't really bother about that since I don't use the cd cases and it worth the same price.

Just beware, I have read somewhere that they seems to have frequently problems with our orders by sending us wrong contents. :sly:

@5150: No I don't know these ones.. But about your amount of taxes : It's monstruous!! :scared: Well guys, we haven't choose a hobby that is cost-free huh?

padre
8th August 2002, 22:12
:D :D I'm the one who notified everyone of the shipping problem ( with Shop4Tech). They said they were fixing it, and they took care of everyone who were shipped 'other' brand discs instead of PrimeDisc.

What does the surface of a thermal printable disc look like? All the ones I've been getting from them are just silver topped. They used to have the PrimeDisc logo etched into the label, but now they're just blank (but they have the same inner serial number of C1-xxxxx).

Tatjahna
8th August 2002, 22:20
I have the same as you (silver-top) and it seems that I have the same serial as you : C1-3L16K2XXXXXXXX

Well.. If they work great... All I want is that my dvd-rs works perfectly.

I only hope that in a month or 2 they will still work. There is a thread about that problem from CommanderXJL on that forum, take a look, and as he says, believe it or not! Me, for having noticed the same, I believe it!

I've seen similar problems with cdrecordable and meritline media, but I've never seen that issue with PrimeDisc. And I have many that were recorded months and months ago, and they still play perfectly.

Tatjahna

If so, I'm happy to hear that! :D

I am impatient to know the results of atreides93's TDKs!! Do not forget us!! We still want to know! :)

Happy Burning all!

I received last week 25 TDK DVD-R from meritline, in jewel case at $2.79...

This media is great !!! I can finally burn in x2.

It plays perfect everywhere

I can tell the difference of quality, I think "made in japan" is usually a guaranty of good stuff.

I'm about to place an order for 100, just wanted to make sure. Has any one used them for any lenght of time (2 or more months?). From there description, PrimeDiscs, have a dark dye, am I to assume that a dark dye is good indication of the longetivity of the DVD? How about skipping? Just wondering, still wavering between these are the $2.30 TDK's....

padre
18th August 2002, 14:53
I don't think the dye has much, if anything, to do with the discs longevity. I've been burning them since April, and discs I burned back then play perfectly.

Of course, just because of the name and reputation, I'd love to have the TDK 2x (speed doesn't bother me, but wouldn't mind 1/2 the time).
But at the price and reliability I've seen so far, I like the PrimeDisc..

The one I got are the branded one: clear purple, and on the top white with TDK logo and other inscriptions like DVD-R 4.7 GB, DVD-RECORDABLE, etc. They are packaged in individual jewel case.

I just checked on www.meritline.com and www.supermediastore.com, and they don't have it anymore :( They use to sell it 2.79 per DVD-R, now you have to buy 50 or 100 of them, and they come it a cake box.

Anyway ADVDINFO says:

UPS or FedEX is not the issue. it's handling. in either case it's going to arrive at the same point or 2 points of the same nature. ? is how do i get bootleg cd's or try to ship anything Global Post at FedEX or where ever.

If the packaged is labeled Misc. then it's probably going to go. If it's a more honest approach and you label cd's or dvd's and the back is solid...then it would be questionable. Why, because if it's cd's and it's solid it could be mislabeld and could be a brick of cocaine or whatever. If it's labeled cd's and dvd's you should through in the bag some extra coaster's that slide around and can be felt...this works going from Thailand to the US and vice versa.

NOw in either case about 85% time it's going to arrive to where ever it's got to go. Only in locations that are known for illegal or unjust pratice's it will ?. From the US almost anything will go. To the US from the UK it's going to make it.

I used to trade cd's via snail mail to about 35 different countries and only the Oriental countries are where the package doesnt meet arival...and most the time theys still due.

A Word about England and wtf ever is going on over there. I sent 3 packages once with 75 cds each at different times and none of them made it there. It was correct address because i had sent 20 disc's there several times. So whatever is going on over there is beyond me. i thought they were just seized but it wound up each package i sent, each a week apart, wound up back on my door step almost 2 months later on the same day. Something was listed so i called the USPS for they know the spec's way better tha UPS, or FedEX on tax's/tarrif's. They told me i forgot to add some charge that was required by England after a certain weight and not most countries. I then asked what it would charge to send all 3 to England the sure shot way...109.95usd. That was more than i was willing to pay for something i wasnt even proffitting on to begin with.

EDIT: btw FedEX is faster than UPS international 90% of the time.

Ive mainly dealt with Global Post by FedEX and no problems ever to be honest. Not much on UPS when it comes to international since i have too friends that work there for the local here and if the international goes anything like that i cant' risk it

thxtof

As I said in another thread there is a good deal right now going on for the TDK X2 DVD-R:

If you purchase 100 TDK x2 before August 23th, and the use for the coupon "dealmac", you will pay 249$ intead of 269$, with free shipping (20$ off with coupon).

That's 2.49$ per DVD-R...

I just bought PrimeDisc's from them this month and ADVDInfo gives me:
00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 89 0E 13 .B...@....P.....
87 88 80 00 03 41 75 76 69 73 74 00 04 61 72 00 .....AUVIST..AR.

They came in their respective PrimeDisc cases and are etched as "PrimeDisc" in the frosting covering the actual disc.

Flash,

I just got a set of 25 PrimeDisc "Retail" with the same thing. They are a different dye color (lighter purple, almost blue) and the discs themselves have a different feel. But the good news is they work great so far. I've burned about a dozen of them, and they play in all my DVD players that only liked PrimeDisc. No pixelation, skipping or quality issues that I can see.

I've been told that the bulk pack (50, 100) are the previous type of PrimeDisc (darker purple dye, C1-xxxxx serial, etc.).

So in resume, both the bulk and retails Primediscs from Shop4Tech and the bulk and retail TDKs are great!!

I have ordered from England ( I'm in Canada) some Datasafe 2X DVD-R .. I have tried one.. shits! :( I have tried the same ones but DVD-RW this time... GREAT! ...

It's funny to see the difference between the 2 ones : The Datasafe DVD-R is kind of light purple on bottom, and the DVD-RW is near-silver on bottom (The top of theses 2 is a print in yellow and black)
I have some Datasafe Gen-3 that are top-white that I have to try..

But now that I have found good ones at a normal price : Primediscs and TDKs, I will stay on the ground instead of going outer-sea! :)

I have tried the Datasafes because they were reputed to be without fails.. :(

Ciao ciao!

Tatjahna,

That's where I am too, sticking with what's working.

I just received two 100-disc packs of PrimeDisc from Shop4Tech, and they are the original dark purple, silver top discs. So they haven't moved to the new layout/format of the Retail PrimeDisc for the bulk packs. But based on my testing of the 25 Retail ones I bought a few weeks ago, they worked perfectly in all the same players that like the original PrimeDiscs.

Thank god, cause I didn't want to have to go through that hunt and search again for a good reliable AND cheap DVD-R brand. My only wish is they burned at 2x...but I guess I'm just greedy! ;)

I am really tired to search and buy crappy medias... My boyfriend has no hair anymore over his head seeing the amount of spent money for nothing!

So if PrimeDiscs are okay.. I won't spend my money again!

About the Datasafe yellow and black ( light-purple on bottom ) : The 2 ones that I have burned begins to freeze at 1 hour after the beginning.. It's a dvd of 3 hours anime movie. Simply unable to jump to movie 2 at about 1h40 from the beginning too.

So guys, what will I buy on my next medias order ? Tell it together : PrimeDiscs from Shop4Tech! :p :p

I have to concur. Even my gf's picky Aiwa that would skip non-certified media plays these fine. That was pretty much the deciding factor for me. I was relieved because I pretty much wasted my money on a 25 pack of the Pioneer look-alikes (purple tops)from Meritline. Some of those discs wouldn't even boot on my Apex.

Here is my most recent order for DVD-R's

http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?screen=PROD&Store_Code=R&Product_Code=1671

1671 TDK DVD-R 4.7GB, 2X, General Purpose, 50-Pack $125.00
Shipping: Ground: $4.68

$2.50/Each seems like a reasonable price for name brand 2x media.

I will post more info when they arrive. :)
