Why the name VirtualDUB?

What's the deal with the name Virtualdub?
I mean.. DUB?... why is it virtual?

Also shouldn't the save wav option under the file menu be something mroe like:
Proceess audio
or
Save audio
Seeing as how you can process it or direct stream copy any audio codec though that option

What's the deal with the name Virtualdub? I think that Avery Lee is the only one who really knows. :) But at least some of the background can be found at the documentation (http://www.virtualdub.org/virtualdub_history.html) page on his site.
