View Full Version : How can the same media give inconsistant results?

After doing tests on various media, I found that 'Datasafe' worked the best for movies.

This conclusion was based on the fact that I could play the movie on the following DVD players:

Pioneer 545
Samsung 709
PS2
Laptop with Old LG Drive

I also did tests with Infinity and Princo..

Infinity, we were almost as good, but I found that the movie skipped slightly on the Samsung and PS2.

Princo initally seemed the same as infinity, but skipping got worse on the later chapters and eventually stopped all together.

So, Datasafe came out top in my tests.

This week, someone asked if they could borrow a DVD-R to test on their Sony DVD Player.

I picked a disk at random.. They tried it and it didn't work.

I went back to my tests and found that it wouldn't play on my Laptop, PS2 or Samsung, but was fine on my Pioneer.

I retested the other Datasafe disks I had written and they were still fine on all of my players.

I assumed that this must have been a 'bad' disk, so wrote another one with the same movie.

Again, my findings were the same.. It would only play on the Pioneer...

THe original disk was burned almost a week ago and the new one last night..

But in between, I had burned many an between that period...

What could cause the same media, on the same hardware to give inconsistant results?

Your thoughts are appreciated
