View Full Version : Subtitles: sometimes they can be seen

I wonder what I might be doing wrong.

This is about a Daewoo DVD-2000. We tried an SVCD and it was possible to see both subtitles, English and Spanish. We were also able to hear both audio tracks.

Following exactly the same configuration (perhaps with some variations in the bit rate) we tried another SVCD, made following exaclty the same path. No subtitles; two audio tracks correct.

Then we tried another SVCD, but this one had the alternate subtitle method (CVD). Didn't work either. Audio, OK.

All the SVCD's could be seen on a JVC model (twice as expensive): subtitles, audio tracks, etc.

Among 30 SVCD's, we were able to see the subtitles (both languages) only in 3 of them. We can't see the difference between them.

Any suggestions?

I have some experience on playing subtitles on a Daewoo 2000K, since I have this standalone. I checked that it only plays CVD-style subtitles, but no SVCD-style subs.

Note that Iauthor generates only CVD-style subs. But when I used IAuthor as authoring program, the subs worked only when the SVCD had only one subtitle stream.

In the thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23375 a solution is provided using the Iauthor muxer. Another solution is to do the subtitle muxing with Winsubmux (with the CVD style selected) and then use VcdXbuild to do the authoring.

Best regards,

Needle

I forgot to mention the fact that all the SVCD's that have been made with the Anamorphic option, are "jumpy" (sideways) when played through the Daewoo 2000. They play OK on Philips and JVC stand alone players.

About the Subtitles: I just found out that one of the SVCD's was made with the CVD, only one set, another one was made with CVD, Spanish and English subtitles. They both showed fine. One third SVCD was made with the regular SVCD Subtitle standard, and THAT ONE was ALSO properly visible...

That's the problem: sometimes, it works. Some other times, it doesn't work. But I have not been able to catch when it does and when it doesn't.

Thanks.
