Sabre has suggested that bad frames may be causing AVISYNTH access violation errors. If that is the case how could one determine if a DVD rip has such bad frames inside the vob files?

The only two ways I know are not very exacting, but have worked for me in the past.
1. Play the Vob in a Software DVD player like WinDVD.
2. Open the Vob files in DVD2AVI manually. Check out the guide on Doom9 for how to preview in DVD2AVI. It's in the SVCD conversion guides.
