I have purchased quite a few Princo brand DVD-R's and recently it seems almost every movie I burn playes perfect until the last few chapters of the movie, and then it starts skipping/freezing and becomes unwatchable. Does anybody know why it does this?? They play fine on my PC, but on my PS2 very skippy, and on my standalone JVC very skippy as well. Is Princo media crap?? I have burned both with Nero and with Instand DVD. Please someone help me!

I would like to know too.
It happens to me with DVD-R Double sided discs from CD-Recordable.com
But not all the time... just some times.
I use PrassiPromoDVD 2.0 to burn and just recently a 1 to 1 duplicator... happens on both.

This happens to me as well. From what information I've gathered from other posts is that these cheap DVDRs have poor reflective quality towards the edges of the disks. I believe one person tried to color the edges with a felt pen. How much of the DVDR are you using?
Anyway, I'm considering burning one or two cheap DVDRs using movies that Ive scaled down to around 3.6-3.8GB to see if the skipping/freezing
stops. It will be a while until I try this so maybe someone can do this before I do and see if it helps.

I think your right because the movies that I have re-encoded, with Rempeg2 usually have this problem, as I try to aim for highest quality possible, so I fill up the whole DVD. Same with direct Single Layer disk copies. Take Waterboy for instance, I used Smartrip to rip the whole DVD to my hard drive, then burned in NERO. The last two chapters will not play in my standalone. But then I used Smartrip to rip just the movie and audio, and it plays fine. Anybody know any details on coloring the DVD with a marker, I would like to give it a try and post the results. Let me know, thanks.

Yeah, I usually use over 3.5gb... that seems like a good theory as to why it's happening.
Do you think it would happen with better quality DVDRs? I just bought some Apples to see if it will happen on those too.

Here's what of discovered about two of my previously recorded DVDs using the purple DVDPRO DVDRs from meritline:
Jagged Edge 3.44GB (Just ripped, no reencoding) plays all the way through no problems.
The Out-of-Towners 4.27GB(Just ripped, no reencoding) plays fine until the last chapter or two when the skipping/freezing occurs.

These Princo DVDR's sure do differ in their ability to play all the way through. Here is the latest results:
I ripped Billy Madison to my Hard Drive, the whole DVD can fit on one DVD-R as it is only Single Layer:
Burn 1) Burned a direct copy, and it skips/freezes at the last few chapters.
Burn 2) Stipped out everything but the video and 5.1 audio, and used Spruceup to make new VOBS. But I forgot to correct the aspect ratio, doh! But it played the whole way through!!
Burn 3) Corrected the aspect ratio, movie skips at last few chapters.
Burn 4) Same thing as 3, this time the movie plays the whole way through!!
So obviously this media is highly unreliable. I just ordered 25 cheap DVD-R's from www.meritline.com and I will post the results of those. If anybody knows of cheap DVD-R's that are reliable, and don't skip/freeze, I would sure like to know. I got the Princo media from www.shop4tech.com they seem to have a few other cheap brands as well, has anybody tried them?

Doom should set up a place on the forum where people can post questions and stuff about media. I would like to know how people are doing with the media from cdrecordable.com. people say these disks seem to be good. I know the Apple DVD's are awesome, there name brand relabled

I have exactly the same problem with Princo and also Datasafe. I used them to backup files as well as movies, and the last few files on the DVD could not be read. I presume, as a DVd/CD read from the inside to outside that it the outside that is the problem. I have tried Bulkpaq DVD-Rs from 121cdr.co.uk and they seem fine.

Ive had horrible problems with the Meritline DVDs... heres what I did though. I smartripped the bad DVDs back to the computer and then burned them on the same meritline discs from a different batch. Worked fine all of a sudden. What I find is with the 25 pack batches of meritlines, 5 discs will usually be bad towards the ending of the burn. Just while reading in the set-top. I would like to know more about this reflective problem, so we can find a way to correct it, or atleast what not to look for. Just some info, thnx.

Just wanted to say that I got my 25 pack of Meritline DVD-R's yesterday. Fast shipment is always nice :) Anyways, I took one of the Princo's I had burned ID4 too, that skipped/froze at the end, and did a DVD Image copy in Nero. I am pleased to say that it plays flawlessly through the whole movie on my PS2. Keep in mind that I burned ID4 3 times with Princo media, and every time, it skipped/froze at the end. I will try a few others soon, and post the results. So far so good with Meritline.
