I'm doing some tests with TMPGEnc encoded video, looking for the best quality, but I'm having some problems when compiling the DVD in DVDMaestro. With a 6000Kb/s CBR encoded file, I get a "The calculated VIDEO bitrate is too high for a legal DVD stream" error message. Since TMPGEnc offers up to an 8000Kb/s CBR option and I'm only adding 2-channel AC3 audio to the movie, I don't understand what the problem is. I thought the maximum data rate for DVD was over 9000Kb/s...?

Maximum video data rate for DVD is like 9800kbps. I really don't know why you're getting that message. Try viewing your encoded mpeg2 stream with bitrate viewer and see if it really does go beyond 9800kbps.

Interesting--it hits a peak of 8281K, even when TMPGEnc is set to 6000K. I guess between the audio and other VOB data, the rate ends up topping 9800K...?

If video peak bit rate is 8281, you should have room to spare unless you have added many soundtracks
AC3 is a max of 448K/sec
I dont know the rate for DTS, but since the DTS file usually seems to be about 50% larger, I assume its in the 700 range
Subtitles and the padding stream shouldnt amount to much
So unless you have >3 soundtracks, I cant see you going over 9800
