what's the easiest way to do this? i like the way its done in virtualdub, but can't do mpeg2 obviously.. Prefer to not have it re-encode, but i understand that might be the only way to do it. Suggestions?

I have used TMPGEnc "File/Mpeg Tools/Merge & Cut" to do this. You can cut the segments you want to keep (between commercials) and then merge them. You can't get an exact frame cut but you can get close. TMPGEnc is very buggy though and sometimes locks up in the process. Also you sometimes run into audio sync. problems.

thanks for the suggestions, but i'm trying to do a 2.5 hour game... Lots of little peices. Audio de-sync would be a mess. Any others?
I think M2-Edit, iFilmEdit, myFlix XE, or Womble MPEG2VCR should do the job. Unfortunately they're not free.
If you have a DVB stream, then PVACut may be your solution (that one's free).

i can't believe there's no easy way to do this. i asked in rec.video.desktop too. Sounds like M2 Edit might be my best bet. I'll see if I can get a trial. Thanks.
