I got my DVD's from CD-Recordable.com, I've burned 3 movies all over 4 gig and they're perfect from start to finish, I can only burn them at 1x, but I don't care, I guess theres no point in buying the Apple DVD's anymore, because these disks work perfect in my AO3 burner
Similar experiences with Meritline.com dvd's. I've burnt almost 100 movies 99% worked perfectly.

Hi Sy,
Are you using the $1.98 (25 pack) purple Meritline DVD's ? Any experience with the $1.98 DVD-RW DVD's on the Meritline website ?
I figure if the DVD-RW's are ok, it makes more sense to use those as thay are the same price and I can re-cycle them .
Also, what standalone player are you using to play the discs back ?
Thanks
Fletch

Hi Commander XJL,
That sounds promising - I have a Pioneer 535 so it's good to know the cheap media reads ok with Pioneer.
Cheers

I use the purple DVD-R's not RW's from meritline... they work on my Sony DVP-CX860, Sony DVP-N500, and Apex AD-600A

How many people got the CDRecordables to write at TRUE 2X? I am very seriously thinking of buying the 25 pack from them (Actually it is the best buy unless you want those HUGE nasty cases!) Go ahead and figure total cost per DVD, 25 pack is the best buy! Ill just throw those nasty ugly cases away anyway! I use the half/width CDROM cases. Anyway, if they are writing at 2x its definatley the way to go!
the meritmine dvd-r's only write at 1x on my A03 but I'd rather wait an extra 30 minutes to save $4 each disk

I have been burning at 2x in prassi primodvd with cd recordables lately. Im using the pioneer dvr-103 (identical to the ao3). Never burned one bad disc.

I have the cdrecordable.com discs and all of them have burned at 2X on my DVR-104. No failed burns either. Shipping was FAST too! I highly recommend them.

Have you guys done the math on the 2x recording using your A03's??? I've seen in other posts and my personal experience that the A03 will only burn the Pioneer and Apple disks at 2x (unless there's been a firmware hack since I last checked). The burning programs will say 2x, but if you do the math it takes as long as burning at 1x. Apparently there's a check to see if it's a Pioneer or Apple (rebranded pioneer), and if it's not, then it's 1x only.

takes me between 25 and 30 minutes to burn a dvd... Which is 2x

My 1X always burns in about 50-60mins. and my 2X always burns in about 20-30mins. From what I've read, it seems the A04/104 drives burn a LOT more media at 2X than the A03/103 drives do.

I've had good luck with these discs. But I still only write at 1x on my A03, even on the latest shipment. Current firmware, etc. I sent an EMail to cd-recordable asking if they sent me old blanks -- they responded that they had not. My drive is a pretty old A03 - that might explain it.
Is everyone who is using the 104 getting 2x on these?

The A04/104 drives are 2X compatible with a wider range of media...

I finally called cd-recordable to find out about the 2x vs 1x, since they never returned any of my e-mail. I spoke with Les and told him that I am now getting 2x on the discs vs 1x previously. He indicated that he was not aware of any changes to the media since my batch in February but that some people were now getting true 2x on the discs while others were not.
Couldn't explain it except to say they were looking into it. I ordered some more so we'll see if these also do 2x.
Using Prassi with Engine Update
Pioneer A03- No 1.80 Firmware Upgrade, Firewire
Only had 1 bad disc so far from them out of 50.
