Guys,
Bought 50 blank dvd'rs from www.blankdiskshop.co.uk went for the bulqpack @1.44. They seem to work, and most importantly work on standalones, even a first generation sony about 5 years old now.
Not having any joy with the -rw's though, it seems the pioneer struggles with this media, as did the 103 when it first came out.

Are you able to get 2x with these discs - I can only get 1x on my 103 (can't complain at the price though;) )

Does anyone else get the feeling when they see these post that its basically an ad? Every other post I have seen like this the poster has posted a few times and if you search their name and check the posts they are all basically the same thing!?
Just be careful when taking advice.

@gnutellafan - I give the poster the benefit of the doubt. As I check these forums regularly it's easy to see if someone is pushing a business, and the thread can be avoided - but if I came across what I thought was a good deal, I would want to share the info too!

Is there a better source of dvd media testing, maybe like a "consumer report" organization? How about magazines covering the digital recording industry? I would like to have an objective reference as well.

I think more of us users need to compile a list. If anyone wants to contribute, I'll gladly start on it. I have a DVR-104 with 1.10 firmware. I have used TDK and Verbatim DVDRW's and TDK, Verbatim, and cdrecordable.com's generic DVDR's and they all (DVDR's) burn at 2X without any problems.
For anyone reading this thread and wanting a list, I didn't realize there already was one. You can find it here...

I too have the 104, and have had no problems with Princo, Princo unbranded, Princo-RW and TDK.

I have had some interesting findings.
I have tested using 'Infinity', 'DataSafe' and 'Apple'
It goes without saying that Apples work perfectly, but are too expensive.
However, the interesting things came with Infinty and Datasafe.
I put a movie on a Datasafe and it played perfectly (all chapters and extras) on several players:
Samsung 709
Wharfdale M5
Pioneer 545
PS2 (As a DVD Player)
However, when I backed up one of my PS2 games, it was awful.. The PS2 wouldn't even read it. This is strange, as the PS2 plays the same type of disks fine as a movie, but not a game.
With Infinity, its almost the opposite.
On the Samsung, Wharfdale and PS2, the film starts fine, but towards the later chapters it starts skipping.
But for the PS2 games, it appears perfectly.
I don't understand how the a one disk can work fine for Movies, but not games on the same hardware.
So, I am sticking with mixture of Datasafe (for Movies) and Infinity (For everything else).
I also had a single Princo (the new type).. It seemed to work fine in my Pioneer but on the Samsung the playback was very unreliable.
I hope this helps.
