is there any divX-5 bitrate calculator, will there be a divx-5 calc, and/or what goes into making a bitrate calculator. I only ask because the guide on making a divx-5 avi with GKnot doesnt let you use the full compression benifits of divx-5

???
you can use gknot as a divx5 calculator only. (divx4 setting is correct for divx5 and xvid as well. any codec with 1kb = 1000b).
then use any program you want for encoding.

It does! All the benefits are in the codec itself (i.e. use b-frames for higher compressibility), gknot doesn't use any specific divx5 settings, it only calculates what bitrate you gotta use to reach a certain filesize.
I confirm: GordianKnot works great as a DivX5 bitrate calculator, and even more: you can still resize, set end credits, generate AVS files like before with DivX4. Only the encoding has to be done in VirtualDub (enter DivX5 settings manually, use VDub's job control).
GordianKnot is still one of my favourite tools, even with DivX5.

through Gknot I learned how to make avs scripts, I learned a lot about aspect ratios, compressibility, filters and so on.
The compress. check function is great, somebody would have to invent it, had it not already been invented by the Wef.
If only everybody used it, we'd have more good rips!!! And btw it's not only good for DVD rips, it's also perfect for encoding TV captures and DV homevideo.

@theReal:
How do you use GordianKnot for TV captures / DV films? I'm asking because it does not (yet) support AVI, only D2V...
If you're talking about the calculator only, then I understand, but what about the resizer?
