lots of information could be given...
you need almost the same equipment whether you are dialing up to reach the internet or on a broadband line. at the minumum, you need 2 network cards, one for each computer. i suggest that even if you don't have broadband, that you also get some sort of a broadband share device with a 10/100 switch. netgear has some, linksys has some, etc. then, connect your computers to the router/switch. make sure that both computers belong to the same workgroup, then on either computer rightclick on any folder (or drive) and select 'properties->sharing' and either click new share if it is a drive or just enter the info if it's a folder. now either computer can double click on network places and a computer to get to the folder, though you might have to enter your username and password (computer specific).
sharing your internet connections is either easy (broadband) or a pain in the ass (ICS with dialup). broadband, your router/switch takes care of it for you. dialup requires you to read up on how to enable (if you can) some sort of internet connection sharing software on one of the computers, and then configuring your other computer.
i'm not going to help with the dialup. frankly you should just live with one being on at a time if you really want to stick to dialup.
there are plenty of other ways to do this, but if you broadband and want to share things between 2 or more computers, you should really get one of the NAT router/switches purely for security and simplicity. once you get one, just read the instructions and you should be ready to go.

Many thanks for your answer, but i had to be more specific, sorry, dsl conn however,
hope that for 2 pc i dont need any router, just ethernet and one cable :D
i dont need that much security, isnt a real private lan, just a division editing/internet,i need instead to have te two pc visible on the net while just one is connected.
my idea is to do internet with the old pc(small hd),and editing on the new.
however i change videos on the net sometime, then i need that the connected pc can send files(ftp or ircnet-dcc)located on the new, not connected, pc.
as well i need that files in download are written on the not connected video-pc with big hard drives,i dont mean transfer after download, but written while downloading.
Do you own a switch to use only one screen, keyb and mouse with 2 pc,
or do you prefer to keep these peripheals separate?
any good software that you can advice?

how is the dsl connected( what kind of cable?)
if it's network cable there's a d-link 4 port 10/100 router @ techdepot.com ( under the networking tab ) for 40$ after rebate. Offer ends early in May, so I'd jump on it now. you connect then dsl>router>pcs' network cards.
Otherwise you can run "sygate" software (www.sygate.com) as a virtual router. you connect dsl>pc running sygate, network card of that pc>network card of other pc. So you see, if the dsl connects initially via Network card, that pc needs 2!
Still, to register sygate costs money, so the real-physical router is the best way to go.

@Movmasty:
Buy an ADSL Router: ZyXEL or 3Com depending on which ISP you choose (for Aruba/Infostrada/Telecom they are both good).
